Every year for quite a while my Dad has been getting me an old firearm for Christmas. Some are a nice old gun that came into a gun shop, some are from widows of friends. This one is my Grandpa’s 28. It killed an arkload of small game until modern shells made it unsafe to use.

People wonder why taxidermy is a thing, but they just see a fish. I see that tree Dad and I hung on to on the twin islands while the sky sparked and rolled black. The water boiled and we took turns holding the boat and netting or fishing jointed rapalas. Magical and weird hour.

At least a hundred years ago, some body built this on the mountain. I’m not sure how many people even know it’s there, and I wonder if the man who built it is aware I’m admiring it while he’s on some other plane. This whole area was used for timber, but this was built to last.

I ran across these pictures of my pet mallard 🦆 Quacker. He’d follow me around all day, and wait in the bushes for the school bus to drop me off. He just showed up one day and never left. The last three years he didn’t even fly and slept on the back porch with the dog.

Been a minute since I drove something with three on the tree, but this thing rocks. Going to have to get some proper chrome bumpers and cup holders in her, but she’s a fine otherwise with a body just beat up enough to not worry about, and all 8 of her cylinders in a line.
