1. Are pupils being taught a broad, deep body of subject knowledge, including subject-specific vocabulary? 2. Are pupils reading (silently and aloud)? 3. Are pupils articulating their understanding/thinking in writing and talk? If ‘yes’ to all three, you’re teaching literacy.
