Writing in the @irishexaminer today. Five actions to save lives on Irish roads. Five actions which we could, and should, implement by the end of this year. The evidence is clear. The deaths are preventable. The failure to do so is ours. @SimonHarrisTD @MichealMartinTD

‘When a judge dismisses cyclists as a “nightmare”, it exposes deeply embedded bias against vulnerable road users remains in Irish society. ….they reflect how far we are from the cultural shift required to build genuinely safe streets’ More 👇 https://t.co/xBFNSKGrxf

Several other judges here, questioning the conclusions drawn by Judge O’Donohoe. “Every case is different. I don’t decide cases as a cyclist, and he should not decide them as a driver”. The kind of wisdom we need to see.

@CWeston_Indo Cyclists the problem. An Garda Síochána detected nearly 26,500 drivers for speeding offences during Christmas 765 people arrested for driving under the influence. 1,700 using a mobile. 450 Fixed Charge Notices for no seatbelts. 1 driver caught at over 200km/h in a 120km/h zone.

So a judge says "Cyclists have become a nightmare in Dublin?" Actually cycling is much more of a nightmare rather than cyclists. We need to focus on making walking and cycling safer on our streets. https://t.co/EK3B36BGi2

@harrymcgee E-scooter users are not killing c. 190 people per year & yet we don’t call for motor drivers to have speed limiters on their killing machines. MoS Canney gets it wrong again.

Another scathing review of @SeanCanney in relation to his role for road safety. Road safety is NOT a popularity contest minister. It takes courage to do the right thing. I’m yet to be convinced… 😞

@GerHerbert1 @PatKennyNT @NewstalkFM Not even once last year did @RSAIreland roll out their safe passing clip on TV. Drivers need regular reminders as to their responsibilities when overtaking people on bicycles. After a great start following the introduction of cyclist specific dangerous overtaking law.. 😞

@IRVAroadsafety @rte I honestly didn’t find his interview in any way convincing.. Time will tell if he has the stomach for what might be a tough battle ahead. The row back on default speed limits despite positive results from Wales does not see him off to a good start imho. Hope to stand corrected..

@Marie_Casserly @SeanCanney @IRVAroadsafety Leaving this up to councillors is the very opposite of what was initially agreed to. Only the most dangerous of roads & roads where 50km/hr is currently impossible will get through now imho. Default (like Wales did) may have delivered a similar 28% reduction in road casualties 😞
