Not to be too blasé about all this, but “politician tries to arrest political opponents because they won’t agree to election rigging efforts” is the type of thing that can transform an electoral landscape under the right circumstances.

This is the type of organization that was built for a political reality and consensus that no longer exists. "Good governance" will no longer suffice. You've gotta be about beating back autocracy. Full stop.
There's a "Dems versus the Groups" angle in the Gerrymandering Wars. Common Cause, a power player in independent redistricting, has called for both sides to disarm and members to urge their Dem and R governors to "hold the line." They are ignoring this.

RT @charlotteeffect: Mothership's fundraising tactics are so destructive. Just an awful misuse of donor's good will.

The vast majority of Democrats in Congress meet the demands of their respective Farm Bureau almost to the letter and reap almost no political benefit from it. The problem has never been policy and it's unproductive and naive to continue pretending that it is.
Some argue that Dems can win back rural America by making a populist pitch to farmers about using antitrust to take on big agricultural companies. One reason to be skeptical: Agriculture and related industries only employ 10% of rural Americans. Now.
