Metastatic cancer cells are derived as stem cell-macrophage fusion hybrids. These cells use glucose and glutamine for growth and metastasis, and can also eat other cells to get these nutrients. This is described in our papers (DOI 10.1186/s12986-017-0178-2; PMCID: PMC3597235).

Yes. We have not yet found a cancer cell that can survive on fatty acids or ketone bodies alone or in the absence of glucose or glutamine, which are fermented for energy. Fatty acids cannot be fermented!

Driver mutations are now found in numerous normal tissues that do not form cancer. Several cancers have been found with no mutations. Normal mitochondria can suppress tumorigenesis regardless of the number and types of mutations in the nucleus.I have the supporting references.
