Here are 9 mini booklets for ACC, AIC and Macbeth. Each is based on a different theme & follows the same format, ending in an exam question which can be easily adapted depending on spec. Suitable for live/independent work. Use/chuck/change!
@Team_English1
Here’s a scaffolded ‘A Christmas Carol’ intervention booklet for students who struggle with single word analysis. It’s based on
@Xris32
’s ‘words, words, words’ idea and ‘what does a writer want/need’ blog. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
Apparently Word decides to freeze if I go beyond a certain number of pages so here’s Part 1 of a ‘remote learning’ booklet I’ve spent the day making for GCSE Literature to be used in the event of a school closure. Use/chuck as you see fit!
@Team_English1
I’ve spent today making a ‘key extract’ booklet for ‘A Christmas Carol’, designed for those students who struggle to read the text more than once. Sharing in case it’s useful to others. PDF & editable Word versions included. Help yourselves!
@Team_English1
I caved and made a PART 3 of my

@Team_English1
I had a delivery at work today from someone anonymous containing a gift and this note. I wouldn’t usually post about things like this on Twitter but whoever you are, thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
Beginning to hope that my GCSE students aren’t watching
#AChristmasCarol
on BBC 1. I might get a ‘This doesn’t happen in the book’ stamp to save me time when marking essays.
@Team_English1
The ACC resource I shared yesterday seemed to go down well so thought I’d finish this one too. 100 recall questions for ‘An Inspector Calls’ in a 10x10 grid. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
AQA Language P1 revision booklets made for remote learning. These have taken a while but I’m hoping they’ll be useful. Use/chuck/change as you see fit! Q5 booklet will be added shortly.

@Team_English1
That break went very quickly didn’t it? Tomorrow marks the beginning of my last half term at my school of 8 years before I move on to pastures new to be an Assistant Principal. Here’s to a good, final 7 weeks 👍🏻
Approaching my teaching of ‘Macbeth’ very differently this year. Each lesson has a ‘big question’ which students answer by the end. Every so often we revisit our big questions & answer as a self quiz, revealing what is embedded and missing gaps in knowledge. Simple but effective!
Finally managed to make a 10x10 100 question recall grid for AQA Power and Conflict poetry to go with the other ones I shared last year. Good for retrieval work in lessons! Use/chuck/change as you see fit 👍🏻
@Team_English1
Nothing special here. I needed a list of quotations categorised by character for ‘An Inspector Calls’ as part of a lesson so quickly put this together. If it’s useful to you, help yourselves!
@Team_English1
Looking at how to teach the AQA P+C poems to Year 10 remotely. I’m starting to make these booklets and thought I’d share in case they’re useful. I won’t be making them for every poem but will update this folder as and when. Help yourselves!
@Team_English1
There’s nothing new in here but I’ve delved into the resource archives and shoved everything that could be set as remote learning into one folder including a couple of booklets I forgot I had! Help yourselves and I hope some of it helps 👍🏻
@Team_English1
Currently trialing different ways to get students exploring alternative interpretations of texts as part of a drive on high think/high participation activities. Giving students 3 correct answers to debate has resulted in some really fruitful discussion!
@Team_English1
I’ve made some revision booklets for AQA Lang, Paper 2. These will hopefully be useful for independent revision/ cover work. Thought I’d share in case they save teachers some time. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
Here’s a folder of all the resources I made for remote learning in the 1st lockdown with some extras. Includes KS3/4 work & is suitable for independent learning and/or live lessons. Use/chuck as appropriate & hopefully it’ll save time! 👉🏻

@Team_English1
NEW resource... the result of me experimenting with how to include more short stories in literacy lessons. This particular booklet is on 'The Story of an Hour'. Lots of pre-reading/vocab work inspired by

. Use/chuck as needed!
@Team_English1
Here’s something I’ve quickly put together for English Language, Paper 2. Q5 for live lessons. Includes lots of ideas from others. If it helps, please feel free to use/adapt!

@Team_English1
I'm ending our main study of ACC with this, this year. An extract from a letter Dickens wrote highlighting the importance of social commitment. Feel free to take the slide should you wish to use it too!
@Team_English1
Thinking about how
@__codexterous
uses 'What? How? Why?' as a thinking frame as well as a writing frame. It's something I've not considered before and I really like it. Trialing as a retrieval task with 'big ideas' in the 'R+J' scheme I'm making to see how it goes!
@Team_English1
Last year I shared a GCSE Lit ‘Big Christmas Quiz’. This year I’m sharing an even bigger one, completely revamped with new activities to help students revise the AQA course. (ACC, AIC, Macbeth and P+C poetry) Use/chuck/change!
@Team_English1
🎅🏼
New booklet added which helps students prep for an essay on ‘Power & Conflict’ comparison. Contains Word/PDF docs so easily editable if you want to change texts. Includes retrieval & authorial intent work and a structure strip for writing.
@Team_English1
I’ve just made this to help students with AQA Lang, P1, Q3 & to stop them from over complicating their answers. Will trial next week. It might work, it might not but it’s worth experimenting to find out! Help yourselves to the sheet/format.
@Team_English1
I’ve revamped my GCSE ‘Macbeth’ SOW to really focus on helping students understand plot, character & theme rather than exam skills. I’ve decluttered everything to make lessons clear and concise. Old SOW also included. Help yourselves!
@Team_English1
Simplicity of narrative is something I’ve been trying to get across to my GCSE classes for a long time when it comes to P1, Q5. Reading
@Xris32
’s blog on this has made it much clearer. Looking forward to trying out this lesson I’ve made in response! Thanks, Chris!
@Team_English1
Anyone fancy an early copy of ‘Ready to Teach: A Christmas Carol’? Give this a RT and someone will be chosen at random on Thursday! Merry Christmas, everyone! 🎅🏼

@Team_English1
I’ve had a go at making ‘Key Knowledge’ cards for themes in ‘An Inspector Calls’. The link contains ideas on how to use them and some dual coding activities. Not sure if they will work but will give it a go. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1

@Team_English1
Really pleased with how the ‘One Sheet Revision’ idea went down for poetry today with Year 11. No books out on the table. Just one A3 sheet and our memories. I will make more of these for the rest of the poems and share when done!
@Team_English1
Today’s planning included making ‘One Sheet Revision’ resources to help Year 11 revise the plot of ‘A Christmas Carol’. You can find them all in this Dropbox in case they’re useful to you. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!

@Team_English1
Thrilled to be joining the
@JohnCattEd
family with ‘Ready to Teach: Macbeth’, a book I’ve coauthored with
@teachals
. Something wicked this way comes...
Available for preorder soon and released at the end of summer!
NEW BLOG and my first of 2020, discussing how I’ve used analytical verbs to explore authorial intent. Still get nervous about putting these out so hope it’s OK! Huge thanks to
@liaesthermartin
for introducing me to the idea.
@Team_English1
NEW: Here's the second post-mock exam booklet I've made (this time for AQA Lang, P2), enabling students to consider success/errors & addressing misconceptions with a new set of questions. Opp for modelling/self reflection. Use/chuck/change!
@Team_English1
Quick/easy idea: Starting to look at how pre-teaching vocab can be retrieval/interleaving too. After teaching vocab, I ask students how words could be applied to other texts studied. Instigates brill discussion/helps them appreciate words in different contexts.
@Team_English1
Not my best resource but I really like the British Library article on darkness in ‘Macbeth’ so have created a lesson for it including pre-reading activities & teaching challenging vocab. Added to my academic reading folder. Use/chuck/change!
@Team_English1
I’ve been collating Lang and Lit revision materials that I’ve made for Year 11 (ACC, AIC, Macbeth, P+C). If you like the resources here, save the link as I’ll be adding to the Dropbox until the exams. Hope you find something useful!
@Team_English1
I’ve never really been happy with my ‘Macbeth’ SOW. It’s always felt convoluted so I’m redesigning some of it. Here are lessons 1-5 with greater focus on understanding and knowledge retrieval. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
Thank you to whoever shared this resource! I’ve been trying to push my students to reference other emotions in their GCSE answers apart from ‘shock’ and this really helped them to track the feelings of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth through the play.
@Team_English1
A Dropbox folder 2 months in the making, containing lessons and resources for all 15 poems in the ‘Power/Conflict’ cluster of the AQA anthology. Some ideas from
@Team_English1
and TES. Hope something in here saves you planning time. Help yourselves 👍🏻
New lesson added to my academic reading folder on the presentation of children and Ignorance and Want in ‘A Christmas Carol’. Folder also contains two previously shared lessons on ‘Macbeth’. Use/chuck/change/ignore as you see fit!
@Team_English1

@__codexterous

More planning for remote learning today. I’ve made some booklets for my Yr 11 class for English Lit. These are for the Edexcel specification (we’ve changed this year) but easily adaptable for other boards. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
👉🏻
It’s here! Excited to share this pre-order link for ‘RTT: A Christmas Carol’. It was always going to be tough writing a follow up to ‘Macbeth’ but
@teachals
& I are so proud of this. Contains a foreword by the superb
@MaryMyatt
!
@Team_English1
@JohnCattEd
Quotation retrieval exercises for Macbeth, ACC and AIC. Nothing major but I made these for my class and thought I’d share in case they’re useful. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
This SOW isn’t finished (very close though!). I was remaking my AIC lessons to reflect new ideas but now we are in the world of remote learning I’ve changed plans. Thought I’d post what I’d done here in case it’s useful for setting work:
@Team_English1
We're up to 400 5 star reviews on Amazon for 'RTT: Macbeth'. Thank you so much for all your support and kind words about the book. It's very much appreciated. Here’s a sneak peek at the next one
@teachals
and I are working on for
@JohnCattEd
!
Thought I’d repost these. I discovered them again this week, used them with Year 11 and I’m already seeing an improvement over what they produced in mocks. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
Really impressed with
@Pearson_UK
’s ‘Accessible Shakespeare’ editions. QR codes for each scene to be read to you, clear translations of language, key quotation sections and plot, theme, character and context trackers. Check these out,
@Team_English1
! 🤩
I’ve shared this before but this Dropbox contains everything I have for GCSE Lang/Lit to help with planning for the new year. Contains schemes/quizzes/revision materials/ booklets etc. Help yourselves and use/chuck/change as you see fit!

4 x ‘quick planning’ sheets for AQA English Lit, allowing students to plan responses for an entire paper. Shared with permission from
@Xris32
who came up with the concept detailed in his brilliant blog. Thanks, Chris!
@Team_English1
It's been a while since I shared anything so here goes...
A series of short 'Do Now' tasks based on exploring multiple interpretations in 'A Christmas Carol'. Instructions are in the PPT... a quick and easy way of exploring different readings of characters and quotations.
Here’s a simple resource I’ve quickly put together to help students with character work. May be useful for remote learning so help yourselves! The folder contains Word/PDF versions and a small example. Use/chuck/change as you see fit.
@Team_English1
I’ve added to this folder with more lessons for AQA Language, Paper 2 focusing on questions 1-3. They’ve been designed with live teaching in mind but feel free to use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
After reading
@EDmerger
’s superb blog on structuring writing, I knew I had to create a lesson out of it. All the work here (the story and ideas) is Paul’s. I’ve just added a couple of bits. Link to original blog on 1st slide!
@Team_English1
Some small grammar/writing lessons and exercises that I’ve been working on/using. Lots here taken from the brilliant University of Exeter ‘Grammar as Choice’ resources. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
Thank you all so much for your comments regarding my
#TMEngIcons
presentation. I’m overwhelmed by the support. I’ll work my way through all of them soon! 👍🏻 Here’s the PPT:
Based on
@shadylady222
’s brilliant OMAM resource, here are some quick character vocabulary lists I’ve put together for ACC, AIC and Macbeth. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
.
@teachals
and I are in Scotland this summer so it’s seems pertinent to reveal this! We’re finishing it off over the next few weeks - a workbook for students to help them revise ‘Macbeth’ and it’ll be very useful for teachers too. Details on availability to follow soon!
Made a resource on poverty in ‘ACC’, using
@mrsbrewtandcake
’s incredible ideas from her
@LitdriveUK
CPD session. Uses Hogarth’s ‘Gin Lane’, maps of Old Nichol & extracts from ‘Child of the Jago’ to discuss poverty over time. All thanks to
@mrsbrewtandcake
!
Finally finished these! Knowledge retention quizzes for all five staves of ‘A Christmas Carol’ in
@AndrewSweet4
’s brilliant format. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
Playing around with low threat ways of revising GCSE poetry & have revisited the ‘1 Sheet Revision’ idea I used last year. Here’s what I’ve made for 2 P+C poems. Might work, might not. I’ll give it a go and make more if it does. Use/chuck!
@Team_English1
Here’s a ‘Thinking and Linking’ grid I’ve put together for ‘An Inspector Calls’ based off an idea by
@87History
from her book ‘Love to Teach’. Help yourselves!
@Team_English1

@LitdriveUK
@Team_English1
Here’s a link for a couple of things I’ve made for my Year 11 class, checking knowledge of plot/characters for
‘ACC’ and ‘Macbeth’. Nothing special but thought I’d share. Will also work for remote learning. Use/chuck as you see fit!
@Team_English1
I’m often guilty of over complicating my teaching of unseen poetry. This week it’s back to basics. Going into the lesson with 2 very short Rupi Kaur poems, a visualiser, discussion and the attached sheet in A3 and we’ll see what happens!
@Team_English1
I’ve been inspired by
@KateJones_teach
’s ‘Retrieval Practice: Resource Guide’ today. Here are some quick retrieval activities for ‘An Inspector Calls’ that I’ve made using Kate’s ideas. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
Used
@Xris32
’s ‘decluttered analysis’ technique today by turning prose into poetry. Excellent verbal contributions from Year 10 on the stripped back version of Dickens’ description of Scrooge before annotating in their books. Low threat, big impact!
@Team_English1
This isn’t a complete SOW but here are some resources I’ve used when teaching rhetoric to Year 8. Lots of influence from things I found on LitDrive for these. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
One day I'll be able to leave a SOW alone for a bit. Clearly today is not that day! Re-resourcing our 'R and J' scheme to reflect new thinking and ideas. Props to
@Xris32
for his 'identifying structural choices' method from 'How to Teach English'. It's always a winner! 👍
Looking back over my Yr 11 poetry anthologies and although their notes are fantastic, I’m wondering how students are going to revise from them. Inspired by
@MissMFrost
’s flipbooks, I’ve created a ‘Key Points’ page that will hopefully help them order their ideas.
@Team_English1
Here’s a post mock exam booklet for English Literature. (AQA, Paper 1) Some of the activities might be useful for your feedback tasks. It’s in a Word doc so easily editable. Use/chuck/change as you see fit!
@Team_English1
