Lots of talk about sharing things again like ‘the old days’. I’ve never really stopped, but here’s the last thing I posted and I’m sure I’ll be making some more bits over the summer! More in my pinned tweet. @Team_English1.

NEW ‘Power and Conflict - The Interpretations’ revision booklet. I always get my students to consider 3 interpretations of each poem and ask them to consider which they agree with the most. It’s a great springboard for debate and considering new ideas. I have collated these into

If you’re at the Edinburgh fringe this year, do check out ‘1984’ by @BoxTaleSoup. Superb production. Wonderful and haunting use of puppetry. One of the best things I’ve seen up here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love the inclusion of the amphitheatre in Romeo’s flight to Mantua. One forgets it would be there!

One last set of images from my trip to Verona last week… these wonderful panels by Sergio Pasetto from ‘Juliet’s tomb’ that tell the story of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. 1. "I would like to sing Verona".2. The meeting.3. The kiss of the balcony.4. The marriage.5. Duel between Romeo

And then we come to ‘Juliet’s tomb’. Again, some interesting bits re: Shakespeare’s inspirations.

Some interesting Shakespeare/Dickens stuff I read today in Verona. A short 🧵! . I visited ‘Juliet’s balcony’ today in the city. It’s a romanticised invention… but I love it when literature transcends boundaries into reality - a little like the Lyra/Will bench in Oxford.

I went to the opera for the first time ever last night: Franco Zeffirelli‘s production of ‘Carmen’, performed under the stars in Verona’s ancient amphitheatre. Started at 9.15pm and didn’t finish until 1am - I was transfixed the entire way through. It really was something quite
