I wrote this piece about a young woman in my program who passed away when I was studying abroad in Spain. Thank you @gabriellen_vega for your help with it. Please share this article if you get something out of it. https://t.co/bIF0dSVjqw

This strange square 👇 is undoubtedly the most extraordinary work of literature in human history. Yet, unfortunately, barely anyone in the West has ever heard of it. There was this woman poet in 4th century China called Su Hui (蘇蕙), a child genius who had reportedly mastered

Hugo Timms, the great mind who brought us heavy hitting literature like “it’s not racist to quote the n-word” and “the nhs is sick with wokery” thinks that Sally Rooney is too stubborn— too preachy with her beliefs. Moral absolutism for me, but not for thee
https://t.co/KJerlz04oy I know it's boring to bring up Sally Rooney. But this piece is spot on: "it seems wrong to classify Rooney’s work as ‘literature’. This isn’t only because it lacks any lyrical beauty or artistic depth. It is also that her books are far more interested in

what people don’t realize is that to write is to think. by outsourcing your writing you are outsourcing your thinking. you are paying for the degradation of your own mind. don’t use AI to “structure” your thoughts. structure them yourself. a shortcut to nowhere
I believe that in a decade or so basic writing skills will be considered an exceptional talent due to everyone depending on AI to write things for them. And you can join this future league of ‘writers’ by merely refraining to dumb down your brain by relying on AI for words.

You can lead an ordinary life and be an extraordinary writer. And even if you're a mediocre writer, please write. Someone will resonate with your words. We need long form content in this world of slop. I want to see people being earnest and thoughtful.

Literally almost every single American I met in Asia, from all racial and ethnic backgrounds, from all socio-economic classes, from all walks of life says the absolute best thing about Asia is walkability. Car culture is so unbelievably miserable you have no idea how miserable
Medical studies continue to report that infrastructure designed around the car directly contributes to anxiety & depression.

Sorry to sound old but brainrot did not begin with ChatGPT. Short-form videos are addictive by design, and too much exposure will fry your concentration, curiosity and joy in living. You need to be ingesting long-form content: novels, movies, essays, educational books and videos.

Learning in school is not enough. You must continue to teach yourself throughout your life. Study history, read myths, memorize poems, get acquainted with the greatest philosophers & writers. In an age when tech is cooking many brains, we need an army of autodidacts.
