This is not meant to distract from the obvious treason, but another thing giving Putin hope is all those frozen russian assets he thinks he can get back. Releasing them to Ukraine would eliminate that hope.
Ukraine would agree to a ceasefire today along existing front lines, but Putin wants to keep fighting, hoping to isolate Ukraine from the United States. Trump's envoy is promoting such a split by embracing Putin rather than pressuring him to stop killing.
