*ahem* This team SWEPT a World Series against a team with prime Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander.
The only sweep in the last 14 seasons.
And most of these guys won multiple World Series with this team. It wasn’t just a lucky season.
Respect them.

Mark Mathias is originally from Santa Clara. So Zaidi hit four of his clichés in this trade: Recently DFA’d, Utilityman, traded with Seattle, and Bay Area native.
What a great day for Joey Bart. A home run, a double off the wall, and a pickoff of a runner at second. Exactly what you want from the somewhat embattled catcher!
…
I hope he does well…but I’m not sure he’s ready after one week.
Look, I love the kids, but this feels like desperation after having failed to build any depth in the middle infield of a big league roster.
A lot of outrage online right now in
#SFGiants
land…all I’ll say right now is that it’s time for the local
#SFGiants
writers to really find answers. Not assumptions (as many fans are jumping to). Hard answers. Because the fans jumping to assumptions is not good for the team.
One thing that I want to see with Jung-Hoo Lee and the
#SFGiants
that no one is talking about: I want to see him put the triples back into Triples Alley at
#OraclePark
.
Just got a unconfirmed report that Will Wilson has been promoted to Triple-A and should make his debut tonight against Tacoma. In 29 games with Richmond, he was batting .233 with 4 2B, 8 HR, 18 BB, and 31 SO.
What in the actual fuck is this?
My father bought one to honor his wife, my mother, who passed away in 1999 just before the stadium opened.
And now the
#SFGiants
think fans will be satisfied with a glorified NFT?
This is disgusting.
This! THIS!
And this is on Sabean, Evans, AND Farhan. They have to maximize themselves in the farm system, and hit in the first round.
It ain’t easy, but they need to be better. In drafting AND development.
The Giants' first-round picks since 2010 have accumulated a total of 10.8 WAR for their careers and 5.4 came from Joe Panik. The Dodgers' first-rounders since 2010 have accumulated 68.5 WAR.
For the second straight season, the Giants nabbed a player in the 2nd round of the draft that they were connected to in the 1st round. Carson Whisenhunt has looked like a steal so far this season. Hopefully Walker Martin will follow that!
It's hard to believe that anyone at the
@SFGiants
thought this would go over well. Any sort of truly "mutual understanding" would probably include some kind of farewell season to give Renel the plaudits she absolutely deserves for the work she's done, and the icon she is.
The
#SFGiants
may have quietly addressed one of the weakest areas on their roster from the 2023 season - left field. Giants left fielders were last in baseball in wRC+ (70 wRC+) and fWAR (-1.4 fWAR).
Shifting Michael Conforto over to left field and trading Mitch Haniger...
Don’t get excited because Joey Bart hit a home run on his first spring at-bat.
Don’t get excited that it was against the Dodgers.
Get excited that he took an off-balance swing at a well-placed pitch low and powered it well out to the opposite field.
Darin Ruf to the Mets...interesting. I want to see what the full return is, I assume it's not just J.D. Davis. But good luck to Ruf...he's been a very good Giant, and I hope he gets a chance elsewhere.
@GrantBrisbee
Um, Grant? Did you really have a tweet from 2012 saved somewhere just for a moment like this? Do you have a stash of ancient tweets saved, ready for use?
Gotta be honest, Schmitt should’ve been sent back down to work on things a while back. I’m worried that extra useless months in the big leagues hurt his development.
#SFGiants
roster moves:
• IF Casey Schmitt optioned to Triple-A Sacramento postgame yesterday
• IF Mark Mathias (
#46
) recalled from Triple-A Sacramento
Kyle Harrison is facing a hell of a lineup for his first game. I wouldn't feel bad about giving up a home run to Bryce Harper, especially with how hot he is. He's looked very good otherwise.
That's 21 players for the
#SFGiants
from
#MLBDraft2023
. How did they do?
Well, they went for risk early, with two-way player Bryce Eldridge as their top pick, but got a lot of value picks later. Walker Martin was rumored to be their 1st round pick, and fell to 2nd...

I sincerely hope some major news networks get a hold of this tweet and broadcast it to shame those who are blasting Biles for her decisions.

I trust you to help amplify this!
In other Snell-related feelings…I like this for Mason Black and Hayden Birdsong, as well as Kai-Wei Teng. It allows them to not rush into the Majors, and really force their way in (which I think they will).
Bart seems to have found his groove, which is good. Will Bart get back up to the bigs? Will Bailey get figured out the way Schmitt was? Is there a trade looming? (Heliot Ramos has come out hot coming back from his injury too…)
The signing of Lee shouldn’t fully absolve Farhan Zaidi of all the criticisms regarding his signing of free agents…but it should build him some credit. Big money was absolutely spent, and he signed a very competitive free agent. But it can’t be his only move.
Sources: The
#SFGiants
have spoken with the
#Cubs
about Kris Bryant, and the Cubs are evaluating 24-year-old catcher Joey Bart as one candidate to be requested on their side of the talks. Bart has a .904 OPS this year at Triple-A.

in the Arizona Fall League: Giants (Scottsdale): Marco Luciano, SS (No. 1/MLB No. 5); Hunter Bishop, OF (No. 6); Patrick Bailey, C (No. 8); Will Wilson, SS (No. 15); Gregory Santos, RHP (No. 24); R.J. Dabovich, RHP; Cole Waites, RHP
All in all…this is a pretty nice season-ending game. Sure, they lose to the Dodgers, but Kyle Harrison went 5 hitless innings, Casey Schmitt had 2 home runs, and there was a literal passing of the torch moment from Brandon Crawford to Marco Luciano.
Pretty hopeful.

In 82 career AB at Oracle Park, Martinez hit .205/.227/.410 with 3 home runs.
In 46 career AB at Citi Field, Martinez hit .196/.229/.348 with 2 home runs.
J.D. Martinez explains how the Giants' home ballpark played a factor in him deciding not to go to San Francisco
He feels Citi Field will fit his hitting skill set much better
Hunter Bishop just picked up a stolen base here in Richmond after being caught in a rundown, and slipping by a tag to get to second! Akron's manager doesn't like it, but the ump stands by the call! Two hits for Bish tonight so far.
@UmpScorecards
88% is the worst accuracy of any ump this postseason. 2nd worse was 90% percent by Mark Carlsen in the AL Wild Card game.
93% consistency is tied for 2nd-worse in the postseason, with the worst being 92%.
End of Day 1 reflection: Yes, I'm still underwhelmed by Eldridge, but the Giants got two great values in their next two picks. I'm shocked that Martin lasted to the 2nd round, and Joe Whitman is a good college pitcher who slid for some reason. Overall, a good injection of talent!
Ismael Munguia with a go-ahead two-run shot. But it's more than just the shot. It's the passion and the energy that a lot of folks (including myself) love about him.
Nice to hear a couple of quality, clutch at-bats for Heliot Ramos and Casey Schmitt today. Casey is the talk of the town, but I’m really hoping for Ramos to turn things around after a disappointing 2022.
I can’t add to anything that hasn’t been said already. The Mets concerns makes the Giants look less bad. But still not good. It could’ve been handled better, but at least it seems they did the wrong thing for legitimate reasons.
Just a reminder for people thinking about Marco Luciano, Tyler Fitzgerald, or even Mason Black’s stats this week:
They’re playing in Albuquerque, which has an altitude a bit higher than Denver’s.
Don’t get over-excited about the coming glut of home runs.
Giants are expected to sign SS Josuar de Jesus Gonzalez in next year’s international signing period. He’s in the mix for top amateur intl player of the class. Athletic, projects as plus at SS, burgeoning power from both sides. Would be highest profile signing since Marco Luciano.
At this point, the
#SFGiants
should sign Brandon Belt back.
Not because it’ll change the team’s fortunes, but that running on the nostalgia of the past FO’s success is still going to be better for fans than another position filled with a yearly “Who’s That?”
Oh boy, the flood gates are open. David Villar hits a high, DEEP home run onto the building in left at Sacramento for his second home run after three games. It's 5-0 Sacramento in the 7th, and Villar has only 7 RBI in his first three games.
ESPN apparently is getting product placement from the Dodgers with all this talk about how awesome Dodger Stadium is and all renovations stuff DURING THE GAME.
I hate ESPN broadcasts.
Clubhouse culture: When up at bat, the dugout is calling Mark Mathias “New Guy” in his first game here.
Wade Meckler, who has been here a day longer, is being called “Other New Guy”. 🤷♂️
Heliot Ramos was just removed in the top of the 4th of the Sacramento River Cats, with no obvious reason. Didn't look like there was any injury...but that's what I said about Bart last year, and he had a groin issue. He was 0-for-1 with a walk.
I have criticisms of Gabe Kapler’s managerial style on the field, for sure, and I’ll continue to be vocal of that.
But I think he has done a damn perfect job of leading the team in this difficult world outside of baseball and the social issues that are happening.
Big day for the kid. The numbers in Richmond have been...not great, but that's as he's been recovering from back issues. Let's see how he does in the California heat!
I'll be in Sacramento today, hopefully he plays!
I am no paragon of ethics or maturity, and I am guilty of saying things that have built lifetime grudges. But the tantrum today by
@sportslarryk
was shameful. Media are no better than fans, and this once radio host now only on a YouTube podcast hasn’t learned this.
The Hot corner is 🔥 in the
#SFGiants
system right now. At AAA, Villar has 4 HR; At AA, Sean Roby has 5 HR in his last 3 games; at High-A, Schmitt is batting .462/.563/.769.
What a great start for all 3!
With their extra pick in the 2nd comp. round,
#69
the Giants take LHP Joe Whitman! Definitely not an undershot guy, a college pitcher who slid, and the first college LHP drafted today, I think.
I’m understanding of why most spring games aren’t broadcast…but a night game, at Scottsdale (home) against the Dodgers seems like an obvious good choice to televise, even if it is a weekday, even if they couldn’t know the top prospect was pitching ahead of time.
@NBCSGiants
Hunter Bishop just got absolutely robbed by the umpires in Eugene. He had a home run hit the scaffolding behind center field that bounced onto the field, but the umps called it a double (the umps have no replay). Rough moment for the
@EugeneEmeralds
.
This is a very good start. Lee improves the center field defense, which I’m sure any pitcher at Oracle Park will appreciate.
It also puts a dynamic bat and base-stealer at the top of the lineup. Though the lineup needs a bit of thump to follow it.
Today is International Signing Day. I’m seeing fans note the
#SFGiants
didn’t sign any “top” guys.
It’s been an emotional offseason for fans, but this isn’t bad. The Giants had two past years with a high-ranked signing, and with players this young, it’s hard to predict who pops
Every year, I bet a small amount ($5 or $10) on the Giants to win the division, the NL, and the World Series, since I combine a spring trip between AZ and Las Vegas.
Every year.
Except this year.
Stupid Coronavirus.
The Giants were 40-1 to win the NL West and 100-1 to win the World Series preseason (same as the Diamondbacks).
Do you know anyone with some crazy action on the Giants that looks pretty nice right now?
Ismael Munguia was the heart of the 2021 Emeralds team and his energy was a joy to watch. His fun-loving attitude was reminiscent of watching Pablo Sandoval back in ‘07.
He was on an absolute tear to finish 2021. I hope he gets back on track quickly this season!
After a recent family tragedy, plus a long surgery rehab, beloved Giants minor-leaguer hits dramatic HR: “When I hit the home run, I looked up in the sky and I said, ‘This is for you, Tonio.’ Every time I touched a base, I said, ‘This is for you, Tonio.’ )
Here’s
#SFGiants
prospect Heliot Ramos driving in prospect Sean Roby with his first hit of the spring.
You probably know Ramos’ name, but you’ll want to know Roby’s too. He can whack the ball.
@timkawakami
This game is not sold out by any stretch of the imagination, but Kaval wishes he could pack any seating section the way the bleachers are tonight.
@Jaxland58
@extrabaggs
@SFGiants
I hate the “fans” that have been giving you shit over one bad game.
You’ve been having an amazing season so far, even aside from injuries, and I look forward to you continuing to be a big part of the team!
#SFGiants
The thing about talking about players’ perception of San Francisco is that, as with many things in this modern world, facts are outweighed by perception.
You won’t change minds by citing bar graphs or media reports. Trying to downplay other cities comes off as petty.
I still feel the
#SFGiants
have a capable utility infielder (and center field) backup in Tyler Fitzgerald, but the organization seems to not like him as a big leaguer. He needs a bit more development but he’s one to watch.
Farhan Zaidi said adding another starting pitcher is "still very high on our list." Giants are also looking for shortstop depth behind Marco Luciano, preferably someone who can back up multiple positions.
A bit of a rough day for Marco Luciano is his first game at second. Early on, on a double play grounder to third, Wisely threw high, tipping off of Marco’s glove into right field. Here in the top of the 5th, he was slow to charge a grounder and couldn’t glove it.
Before the
#SFGiants
final pick, I just want to say thanks for following along with me, and others like
@maddelucchi
who are writing things up on the draft. This is the most fun all year for me.
