The use of the word “motorists”frames the policy response. Not “commuters” (whose needs might be met by better public transport) not “families” (who might also want clean air & safer streets) this is about people as car owners & protecting the use of cars.

Random thought: What if we extended support to care leavers, not just to age 25 but for their whole lives (including their transition to parenthood)? The impacts of early adversity don't stop at 25. Ongoing support could enable prevention/early intervention in a range of issues.

Students alone in uni rooms. Newborns alone in NICUs. Children not eating meals properly. Yes it’s a global pandemic and lots of things are tough. But let’s get our priorities right and ensure that caring for our babies, children and young people is at the top of the list.

As far I can see there is still no minister for mental health, no minister with responsibility for maternity services as part of their role and no cabinet responsibility for Best Start in Life. I don’t want to start my week feeling this cross. #reshuffle

Remembering Jane from @magpieprojectuk powerful evidence to the House of Lords this morning. Babies locked down in hostel rooms so small the only place to learn to walk was on the bed. 😞 Then I turn the radio on and everyone is angry about football. 😡

👩‍💼👨‍💼Expensive early education and childcare is a barrier to work. 👶👧Poor quality early education and childcare is a barrier to opportunity. I hope the Chancellor is going to carefully balance these two considerations in this week’s budget.

It feels like framing and language is critical in the policy debate around the early years. I wonder if “childcare” feels more like a parental entitlement/enabler and “early education” might make people think more about children’s entitlements & standards?

Joshua Sparrow: Babies do not have a voice unless we listen to them. By listening we build their self esteem, capacity for self love, and to love others. Infant mental health health has the potential to create a world where people care about and care for others. #waimh2018

Next week’s new regulations are different to the first lockdown, including allowing playgrounds to stay open and enabling support groups to continue.

This is focussed on school aged children but 0-2s experienced lockdown during a key period for early language development and that must be taken seriously too. Let’s not wait until children start school to take this serious #whataboutus #babyblindspot
