This news is dropping as my family & I drive past the library I grew up going to in Battersea next to the first bookshop I ever worked in. I’m in bits, little me could never dream of this. I’ve smashed the glass ceiling & promise to bring as many of you as possible with me. cont.
DIALOGUE BECOMES DIVISION OF HACHETTE UK AS SHARMAINE LOVEGROVE STEPS UP TO THE BOARD 🔥
Read the full announcement here:
Join us in wishing
@SharLovegrove
a huge congratulations!
So proud of these boys & all they’ve done for our country. We don’t deserve their brilliance. They fought for school meals, kneeled against racism, wore the rainbow with pride & even rode a unicorn!! They are our present & future & they made England united ❤️🤍

BOOK LOVERS, I need your help, you’ll thank me. The interest in Black voices is phenomenal & I need you to help make HISTORY. Can you PLEASE buy these books & help keep or get these four amazing Black Women to number 1 in the Sunday Times Bestseller lists in all 4 categories?
They say when you’re pregnant you go into nesting mode but bizarrely my books have been the things I have most wanted to make a home for. Behold my new, hand crafted, floor to ceiling bookshelves!! Literally a dream come true!!
I’m about to give birth but let it be known that the racism I’ve seen & the silence I’ve witnessed in publishing is utterly deplorable & unforgivable. When I’m back in ‘22. I’ll be standing firmer & harder for inclusion, innovation & integrity w. more fire than ever before.
Turns out I am FULL of surprises in the year of the pandemic & the latest one is that I'm pregnant with twins!!
So I'm looking for someone *incredible* *passionate* *experienced* & *confident* to lead
@dialoguebooks
in my absence. Ad below, inc. salary, closing 5 March Pls RTW

@LittleBrownUK
@dialoguebooks
are looking for a Senior Publisher to join on a FTC! You will take on existing projects, fiction and non-fiction, and drive the publishing strategy for these books, alongside acquiring new + exciting fiction + non-fiction.
11 years ago today I fulfilled my life-long dream to have my own bookshop.
I never imagined it’d be in Berlin & never envisaged that it would become a publishing imprint.
We’re back where my dreams became reality & I’m so grateful to everyone on the
@dialoguebooks
journey 💙
We just got a puppy! An 8 week old Parson’s Terrier! We’ve named him Ochi which means ‘laughter’ in Igbo and Ochi Rios one of my favourite parts of Jamaica. It’s our first dog & we’re smitten. Please welcome him to our family & share your dogs pics xx
I'm really disturbed by the media in the last weeks. I'm so angry that the calling out of racism by fellow Black women have been deemed as PC and TV fodder. Our lives are not theory, they are real and it hurts so deeply that our daily experience over generations is being denied.
Since I became a publisher, the first thing I did was create credits in the back of our books to celebrate and thank everyone who works with us on our projects. It’s super easy to do and at
@dialoguebooks
it’s a natural part of our innovation, inclusion and inspiration!!
I wish books had credits like films and tv does, or programs like dance and theater does. It’s a damn shame that most people don’t know how many people it takes to make a book!
Absolutely sickened that the experiences of Black, Asian & marginalised ethnic people In the UK have been erased by this damming report which claims there’s no racism in Britain. There’s so many gaps in the report. I am LIVID!! Cont...
Our grandmother’s have been friends before our mothers were born and her mother is my god mother. Here we are talking about the brilliance of Queenie and the German publication. We are our ancestors wildest dreams and for sure South London’s Finest.
Just for the record, not having to engage in the myriad conversations in our society on race, class, gender, sexuality or inequality is by definition evidence of privilege.
We’re looking for:
- Two writers who love Nature 🌾
- Who create in a variety of forms 🤸🏾♀️
- To be Writers in Residence in our National Forests 🌳
- Receive £2.5k prize 💰
- Deadline Monday 14 Jan. ⏰
(could it be you or someone you know) 🙋🏼♀️🙋🏾♂️

This
@thetimes
headline is vile. Jamaica is an incredible, beautiful & safe country. Many of its issues come from the UK. It’s not acceptable tout the myth English exceptionalism & tarnish multiculturalism in this way. Fix it + fix up
@andrewellson
(p.s. I have read the article)
Publishing twitter reached a real low today & seeing writers of colour cast as trolls for calling out racism is totally unacceptable, especially as it seems defenders hadn’t read the text. The performance of inclusivity must end now & reflection & responsibility must be actioned
So the term BAME just died today.
Bringing different ethnicities together has long been problematic and led to a stagnation for Black people for real change. I’m not sorry to see it go and will no longer be using it.

Some News: We’re moving back to Berlin v. soon & I’ve JUST purchased our one way ticket out of Boris’ Brexit Babylon taking
@dialoguebooks
home & fully continuing my work. I’m hoping to bump into this Wonder Woman & learn some moves in that very spot to these tunes on arrival 🔥
Me, aged 24 working at
@LRBbookshop
. Although I knew my life would be filled with literature, I couldn’t have imagined that 3 years later I’d have moved to Berlin & started
@dialoguebooks
& then glow it up into a
@HachetteUK
imprint. Tell me about your unexpected life twists?!
To kick off
#BlackHistoryMonth
right, I’d like to wish a very Happy Publication Day to the mighty
@DavidOlusoga
and this youth edition of
#BlackandBritish
- I cannot wait to gift this to all the young people in my life from all races and cultures! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
#AndreaLevy
was the centre of my Black British reading experience. My world is richer for her stories and I am stronger in my convictions because her characters nourished me. It’s a huge loss to the community, to writers and to readers and I am devastated.
One year in Bristol! Things I have learnt:
- I love living in a cosmopolitan city not a metropolis
- Britain can feel like Europe
- Sadly I hardly hear Bristolian accents
- Going to the pub and not eating is incredible
- The smell of weed and sound of fun is everywhere
In response to the Booker Prize longlist. I just want to say to all the debut British writers of colour, I see you, I hear you, please keep going... One panel of judges will not stop you finding your readers.
IDK why office workers are clapping the NHS w. Johnson. It normalises the situation where medical workers are becoming martyrs. You’re clapping people working in alarming conditions - w. lack of funding and PPE. We should demand better for the NHS.
When my children are ready to apply for jobs, here’s what I’ll tell them about writing a decent cover letter:
- show interest in the company you are applying to. Show what their specific product & values mean to you
- give 3 examples where your CV is relevant to the job spec
Afternoon book twitter, as I’ve just finished unpacking my book boxes & thought I’d give you a how it started, how it’s going update on my wall of bookshelves built by Will Greensmith. The last pic is of my dedicated

shelves 💫💜
Dear Allies, Thank you for checking in, now is time for work. Please take the time to time to write to your MPs about the delay of the report due to fear of uprising. ✊🏾
So I’m adding a

will feature myself & other female activists speaking truth to power whilst being dressed in finery beyond my dreams. As ever, I demand more from myself & from you in the fight for equality - out 2morrow ✊🏾🤸🏾♂️🎤
Incredible response frm Bristol Mayor

he gave brilliant & nuanced answers managing a great MLK quote! This highlights it’s vital to have Black leadership in ALL areas watch frm 4:25

Happy 10 Year Wedding Anniversary to
@Militaerkultur
- our wedding in Møn is still the best day of my life and I cannot believe what a decade of love, respect, inspiration and adventure we’ve already had. Here’s to many, many more happy years 🥂
Clapham (my home) was one of the first places of rest in London for the Windrush generation. There's many unseen layers of Black & Queer history in the capital. As a publisher, I am committed to amplifying hidden stories against a wave of nauseous ranting that killed London.
Some said I wouldn’t last 6 months as a publisher yet here we are FIVE years later, thriving & loving all things
@dialoguebooks
looking forward to more brilliant books, more exciting accolades & many more bright years ahead!! Thank you to everyone who’s been part of our journey!!
DIALOGUE TURNS FIVE.
This year we are celebrating five years of
@dialoguebooks
as a publishing imprint. We’ll be kicking off our celebrations next week, so keep your eyes peeled for some incredibly exciting news…
#DialogueTurnsFive
We hosted a 9 night for the Queen - a Jamaican tradition. We invited 20 Brit/Irish friends in Berlin. We had afternoon tea of British fare & discussed the Empire, Colonialism, State Atrocities & the future of Britain w. two unelected heads of state. T’was Incredible & cathartic

for
@Waterstones
However you celebrate the end of 2020 this is a gift worth giving!!🥰
This is my last week before parental leave & I am leaving on a high! I'm especially proud to have been made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Props to all
@dialoguebooks
authors & team,
@charlietheking
, David Shelley & inspiring writers & passionate readers!!
At school (in allegedly multi-cultural London) I was told I wouldn’t get many qualifications other than English & that I would probably be a dental nurse as I was too confident to work in a library... (I slayed in all my exams to MA)
#BlackGirlhoodErasure
Good Morning Britain! It’s March 29th 2019 a date many of us have been dreading for 2 years. However it’s a beautiful day and we are all still European 🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺
A huge thank you to everyone who has messaged me about my twin pregnancy news. I'd just wanted to highlight my job ad but instead got an unexpected & overwhelming outpouring of love and kindness which is so beautiful esp. in these times. To see such humanity on here is humbling x
I was awarded
@TheFutureBook
#PersonOfTheYear
last night!! Just AMAZING!!
Thank you to everyone that has been part of this long journey in publishing. It’s been 20 incredible years and in someways I feel like it’s just the beginning...
In writing the best book of the year (arguably of my generation) the name BERNARDINE EVARISTO
@BernardineEvari
should always be credited and celebrated. No excuses.
Utterly flabbergasted that thousands of years of rich storytelling from Black and Asian cultures (which is seeped into the works of all writers from the culture) have been passed over for a few hundred years of European literature.
I will never get over that the British public encouraged an elderly gentleman to raise money for an institution that is not a charity.
As soon as Britain grows up about the NHS, understands we do pay for it & we should demand it to deliver more bc it’s not free, the better.
I’m seeing cultural orgs trip over to highlight the few Black people they’ve worked with or awarded. This is dangerous ground as you’re bringing their race into their work & celebrating YOUR proximity to Blackness rather than them as individual, equal artists. Think about it.
Despite ALL the outrage and disgrace the deportation flights to Jamaica for British nationals are planned to continue - the next flight
#2Dec
. We must raise our voices to end this once & for all. Proud & frustrated to be signatory for the
#Jamaica50
Reading is important at all times & in a moment of respectful reflection on a great national and international loss then context is key. Going to my personal library this morning I’ve listed a few novelists who’ve been key to my early understanding of colonialism and empire.
Musing on how white people are now congratulating themselves for reading diversely. ALL avid Black readers are widely read as there’s so few books frm Black voices. Seeing white readers show off their ‘diverse’ books when WE are assumed to not read broadly, epitomises privilege
Over the past few weeks lots of white people (now ex friends) have felt sorry for me because I’m Black & they’re (now) recognising the oppression. The arrogance of it shocks me because my Blackness is my pride & the root of my almighty brilliance- without it I’d be lost.
After many years of campaigning, I am delighted the Immigration Bill which will end free movement on 31st December has today passed through Parliament.
We are delivering on the will of the British people.
I’m writing a piece about my journey and to stop myself crying I went & got some books that I’ve had since I was a teenager. These books inspired me, gave me pause to reflect on the fact that time passes & life changes and evolves. Like everything we will get through this. 🙏🏾
I have been married to
@Militaerkultur
for NINE years today. From Berlin to London to Bristol and all the adventures in between (parenthood)!!! I love you to the world and back 💕💕
Saddened by the passing of bell hooks. Her words were influential, her activism mighty, her feminism intersectional and her legacy will continue for generations to come. May she rest in power.
Super honoured & excited to be
@livlittle
’s publisher & editor for her extraordinary debut ‘Rosewater’ out on
@dialoguebooks
next spring. Thrilled to be working with
@AbigailBergstrm
too!! Readers.... we are coming for you!! 🙌🏾
@thebookseller
piece:
Today is my first day back at work after 14m PL. Last night I had the Sunday Fear but this morning I’m refreshed, ready & excited to build a new
@dialoguebooks
team who’ll be publishing incredible books by hundreds of new authors for millions of readers…. LET’S GO!!!
‘Mums’ are not the only people juggling homes, childcare and work. This attitude sucks and is totally Tory. The assumptions on who does what in families doesn’t help, it creates more invisibility & actively justifies inequality.
As a publishing person I’ve plenty of tote bags, as a Berliner I’ve always shopped w. totes. Today I grabbed my bag to go shopping & didn’t notice the slogan. Shoppers at
@waitrose
Bristol did notice & have been asking me about it. This change & interest is bittersweet but good..
Pride doesn’t convey how I feel re: publishing
#TheVanishingHalf
by
@britrbennett
. Since acquiring last April I’ve been saying the reason I’d like y’all to read it is: It’s one of the best novels I have ever read. That it’s become a
#1
NYT bestseller in its first week, proves it.
Celebrating TWELVE YEARS of
@dialoguebooks
today!! From bookshop, film consultancy to imprint. I couldn’t be more proud!! Thank you to EVERYONE who has been involved from colleagues to readers, authors to clients. Here’s to many more years of sparking the conversation!! 🥂
For me, the most profound thing re: Trump’s loss will be the demise of the emboldened fascist government in the UK. They were prepared to take food from kids, deport nationals, ban immigration & destroy livelihoods w. a no-deal Brexit that’d decimate society. Now they’re alone.
In Germany folk from all cultures take to the streets to show their solidarity against Nazi’s, in Britain our liberals are commenting under Guardian articles, rolling their eyes at Piers Morgan and coming to terms about being called white.
My out of office for my parental leave is ON!! It’s bittersweet leaving
@dialoguebooks
for a time. The team are amazing and I will miss them & our authors dearly but this time w. my family will be incredible & am so grateful to
@HachetteUK
for making it possible & easy 🙏🏾
Saying you'll do 'what ever it takes' whilst saying you will give small businesses future debt, not close schools and not even mention renters is exactly the kind of gaslighting this government got elected on.
#Briefing_Covid19
What started as a bookshop in Berlin, 2009 has evolved into a highly commended activist imprint at
@LittleBrownUK
&
@HachetteUK
amplifying brilliant voices, narratives & stories that urge to be read. I couldn’t be more proud of our authors & the team. Thank you for the support!😘
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 📚🎈
4 years ago we started this journey.
We are so proud to be the home to a variety of stories from illuminating voices often excluded from the mainstream. Here’s to many more years of sparking the conversation…
#DiscoverDialogue
I’m apoplectic seeing the
@thetimes
today. Universities are meant for people who show potential not just for those who can pay. That
@UniofOxford
&
@Cambridge_Uni
making (slow) progress to address social inequality are being compared to Nazism takes our country to a new low.
Hard to overstate how much I love working with this crew, how happy I am to be back in the
@HachetteUK
office and how much energy I have to ensure
@dialoguebooks
is inclusive, innovative and inspirational… LET’S GO!!!!
It’s
#BookshopDay
today!! It’s also
#BlackHistoryMonth
so I’ve made super it easy for you to support the local indie bookshop cause and increase your knowledge by publishing incredible narratives by brilliant writers. Check out the

list below and get reading!! 🖤📖
Astonishing that
@CandiceC_W
@BernardineEvari
&
@OyinBraithwaite
are all the 1st POC winners in 4 categories of the
#Nibbies
. Let that sink in. They’re ALL wildly talented yet we shouldn’t be dropping firsts in 2020. Their political & powerful speeches marks a moment of change.
