No one cares about the despair of Mr. Ramesh. No one. Not the wildlife authorities, not the forest department, not wildlife NGOs or the government, because we have a highly protectionist wildlife protection act and animal rights oriented activists running about. @moefcc

🧊 Icebergs can sometimes suddenly flip over. But why does that happen? ✍🏽 New for @PhysicsMagazine: A new experiment recreating iceberg flips in the lab suggests that changes in shape due to melting determine if and how an iceberg tips over. https://t.co/efNU4CsPs0

Biotech has cured several serious diseases and made many others tolerable. Tech has cured zero disease. In this thread of drivel, I will posit why this is the case and provide a roadmap for naive techbros to get their faces ripped off.
Tech has produced several trillion-dollar companies. Biotech has produced none. If I were completely impartial to what disease I treat or what modality I use, could any of the existing company-building strategies create a trillion-dollar outcome? This essay is a set of musings on

✍️🏽 Wind turbines get a bad rap for killing birds—but they actually kill far more bats. Bats also seem to be unusually attracted to turbines. For @ScienceMagazine, I wrote about a new study that suggests they could be responding to a visual cue.

Sounds like they have mice data. Mice have been cured of cancer many times.

1. No way to know whether a dog is rabid or not unless the dog dies or is euthanized. 2. Dogs cause 99% of human rabies cases, as per the WHO. 3. The vaccine doesn't undo the trauma or deaths from mauling. 4. Whataboutery.
1. Not all dog bites are rabid. 2. Not all rabies cases are due to bites by just dogs. 3. Rabies vaccine should be taken because prevention is better than 100% mortality if not taken. 4. Many other things are preventable like corruption still our taxes bear its burden.

In countries that see dogs as dogs, they enjoy well-fed lives in the safety of their owners' homes. In the country that sees dogs as community animals, most of them die before year 1, and the rest live shitty, disease-ridden lives on the streets.

The two Indias as postulated by VIrtue Das @thevirdas
2 Indias: Left: Inconsolable father grieving for his dead daughter who sacrificed her life to save her little bro from stray dogs Right: Dog lovers who are happily pampering stray dogs & rally for the predators. Which side u r? Children or stray dogs that prey on children?

@TheRupali Yes, homelessness is a "right" to be bestowed upon dogs so that you can take these silly selfies for cheap, social media brownie points & then go back to the safety & comfort of your home, while some poor kids gets mauled & dogs remain homeless. Win-win for you, death for others.

You don't have to imagine. Rabies alone kills 50+ people daily in this country. Not to mention the other ways keeping dogs on the streets kills. It's a lose-lose situation for both people and dogs, and only saves the savior ego of those who feed stray dogs.
@timesofindia Just imagine the outrage from our intellectuals on twt if it was the other way around. Forget 25, if 1 dog killed 5 humans. People would be on the streets calling for the mass slaughter of every dog on the face of this planet.

🪼 Often, in a counterintuitive phenomenon called Parrondo’s paradox, two losing strategies can be combined into a winning one. ✍🏽 For @PhysicsMagazine, I wrote about a new study on harnessing this paradox for cancer treatment.
physics.aps.org
Simulations suggest that the combination of two cancer-therapy strategies, which individually deliver poor outcomes, might produce optimal results.
