Conclusion: Our study highlights the need for a more holistic approach to #pesticide risk assessment, considering the complexities of natural populations and advocating for policies that better protect wild #pollinators and #ecosystems. (6/6)

📈 Recommendations: We propose three recommendations to help scientists, policy-makers, and regulatory agencies to protect biodiversity, namely 1) Develop toxicity assays for non-Apis bees, 2) Prioritize chronic toxicity studies, and 3) Collect genetic & environmental data. (5/6)

🔎 Main Findings: This variation highlights the limitations of current risk assessments, emphasizing the necessity for a more comprehensive approach to pesticide regulation. Our study sheds light on the urgent need to protect wild #pollinators from #pesticide harm. (4/6)

🔎 Main Findings: Our meta-analysis of #neonicotinoid toxicity data unveils considerable variation in LD50 among #honeybees & #wildbees, up to six orders of magnitude. Surrogate species like honey bees don’t adequately represent risks to wild #pollinators. (3/6)

📰 Synopsis: Ecological risk assessments often rely on surrogate species data, but our study shows this approach falls short. A meta-analysis reveals significant intraspecific variation in #neonicotinoid toxicity, exposing #wildbees to greater risk than previously thought. (2/6)

This is an inescapable reality of any enterprise. Pretending it is not muddies the waters. Fortunately, practice, repetition, and coaching improve efficiency on almost everything from writing grant proposals to shooting free throws to making eggs.

4. Life is a lesson in efficiency. If you want to get more done, you need to either work more, work smarter, or both. Saying anything less is disingenuous.

We're hoping to have a broad ranging discussion about the factors that influence predictability - including eco-evolutionary dynamics, population genetics, and landscape genomics.

In this @globeandmail Opinion, I make the case why the Federal government's stagnant approach to funding training, research and development is hurting our economy to the detriment of Canadians. Time to #SupportOurScience https://t.co/yDIfaTJzxw . . . .

Challenges facing graduate students and early career researchers are real. My partner finished his doctorate sleeping on his supervisor’s floor because he could not afford rent. I used my own personal funds to pay for my 1918 flu expedition. Time to invest in research.

As an avid angler, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. I avoid fishing anywhere near algae blooms. "What about the fish themselves who have no choice but to swim in these potentially very toxic baths?" said @renesahba. @Chris_Winslow @IJCsharedwaters

Research is potential harbinger of more serious effects on fish populations in the future, as rising temperatures set up conditions for more intense algal blooms

10/ 📰 Concluding thought as fish swim forward into another season of #harmfulalgalblooms in the #GreatLakes: “Just because it’s safe for us to eat them, doesn’t mean we should neglect the conditions that threaten their survival.” #ConservationChallenges

9/ 📰 This lag time is further reason to prioritize efforts that can reduce the stress on fish species in the lakes. “They’re a voiceless population,” I shared with @IvanSemeniuk @globeandmail.
