Last week was @UKParliament week. Every class read ‘If I Were Prime Minister’ by Trygve Skaug and @EllaOkstad and then decided what they would do if they were in charge of running the country. Here are some of our ideas. Thanks Mrs Austwick for another fab display. @MyDoncaster

No better feeling than seeing your translation work out in the world and being used in this way - what a fun translation this was, and what an important thing for children to feel empowered to think about 👏
Some outstanding suggestions from the children at #BooksandBiscuits yesterday. The brilliant book, 'If I were the Prime Minister' by Trygve Skaug, is such a fantastic conversation starter. #edutwitter #NationalStorytellingWeek

@schao91773 @OrendaBooks It's rare for me not to put a book down and take my time. I was hooked.

@judefire33 @OrendaBooks I loved it. I can't say why but I want there to be a sequel but also don't... oh god. It is so good!

I've just read #TheGuests by Agnes Ravatn. A one sit read. A superb psychological drama. Ravatn is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. Brilliantly written & tightly plotted with a palpable tension. Absolutely riveting. Nordic fiction at its peak. Coming Jan '24

A little story for a wet Friday night. Near my house I found a wallet in the road. When opening it I found a bank card, some cash, a library and a youth club card. And also a front door key. The person who dropped it is 14 and could be locked out so I set out to find him….1/6

I've seen this discussed a lot with Norwegian children's literature in translation too, nudity in kids books seems to be a big no-no for English-language publishers.
I am excited to find a Japanese edition of Shinsuke Yoshitake’s “Still Stuck” & struck by the differences in the illustrations between the original & English versions 🤔#picturebooks #japanesekidlit

Um, hey @britishmuseum, it's come to my attention that your exhibit "China's hidden century" uses my translations of Qiu Jin's poetry, but you never contacted me for permission. Please note this is a copyright infringement! How are you going to fix this?? #NameTheTranslator

As someone who reads the earliest coronation liturgies day in day out as a job, I feel I should have something pertinent and historical to say, but all I can think is ‘are we really still doing this weird ceremony some guys invented to install a usurper 1300 years ago?’

Just looked it up and adjusted for inflation my wages for my day job have been stagnant since I entered the workforce in 2009! Very cool and totally acceptable state of affairs

Sorry not to be able to spend another day at LBF, it was short but sweet (and a bit sweaty, and somewhat loud?!). Back to more literary business this morning: good old Mr Brick and his colossal crane(!)

Anyone who decides to track me down on Instagram for translation chat is going to be severely disappointed to find that I only ever post pictures of mucky homegrown veg.
