A 90 year old lady I look after with bad vision spent 3 months making this. She doesn't think it's good. I think it's amazing and full of character. Let's show her how good it is...
Today, a girl around 4 years old tugged on my shirt and said 'Excuse me man, I think you have really beautiful clothes.' And ran to her dad and said 'the bookshop man's clothes is full of spots'.
It made my year. ❤❤❤

I GOT THE JOB!
I am going to be working for charity. A carer for deaf people. A subject close to my heart. I once used to be deaf & had many surgeries to be able to hear. I'm very lucky that I am not deaf now. I'm giving something back to a community that gave me so much!
Well, she couldn't comprehend the numbers. She was utterly shocked & amused by all the comments. Most importantly, she says that his name has to be Colin as I made him famous. She says that now she is famous that everyone (including her children) will have to pay for her time 🤣

I have just sung 'Without You' by
@MariahCarey
on the top of an empty double decker bus from start to finish and let me tell you something:
1. I can't sing a note
2. As I got up to leave the bus I realised there WAS someone sat directly behind me crying with laughter.
I look after a lady who is 101. Tonight as I helped her to bed she said to me:
'Colin, I hope you know you light up my life. Every second with you is a blessing.'
I'm not crying...😭❤️
I went under a fog for 5 years.
Today, I'm the happiest I've ever been. The dark days are over.
There is always hope. There's always a hero. It's yourself.
Always remember: this too shall pass.
In the bookshop today I heard a 5 year old boy say to his mum:
'I WANT BOOK TOKENS FOR MY BIRTHDAY AND THEN MORE BOOK TOKENS AND MORE AND MORE AND MORE AND MORE AND MORE UNTIL I EXPLODE!'
Now l work in a care home when I finish a book I take them into the home and give them to the residents. I seem to have started a full time mobile library. They love them!

I'm sorry I can't reply to the thousands of messages and comments I've had this week.
All I can say is THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. You've all given us so much happiness.
In the bookshop I work in a customer asked 'You must really like books?'
I've been a bookseller my whole adult life. I married another bookseller. We had a book themed wedding. All my friends are booksellers. I carry 2-4 books in my backpack everyday
Yet I simply replied 'yeah'
Thank you for all the gifts sent for the lady I look after. She is really very grateful. I can't tell you how much this means to us both. It's been an intense week.

I was just recognised on the street!!! 😱
'Oh my god. You are the bookshopman! I loved that zebra tweet. All my friends have been talking about it this week.'
MIND BLOWN 🤯
Everyday I say hello to this man I see. Some days he's chatty and some days he blanks me. Today I realised it is two different people. THREE years I've been chatting to them. 🤯
WOW!!!!
30,000 likes and growing. 🤯
AND over a thousand positive comments. I can't wait to show her the PHENOMENAL feedback. Thank you so much. This will mean so much to her. It has made me quite emotional.

Shout out to the person who sent me a DM to tell me I have 'a sad little life which has been wasted reading books'.
I just replied this: 'They made my life'
I've just picked up 'Why

Matters' by
@wenyeowchan
. It examines her creative evolution, musicianship & influence...& how they are insufficiently appreciated. A pioneering songwriter & producer, Carey pairs her vocal gifts with intimate lyrics & richly layered details.
Today, I stayed in bed until mid-morning and finished an amazing book. I then had a coffee in a coffee shop. I went to a bookshop and picked up a new book. I then went to work as a carer.
I'm really rather happy.
Thinking of the time my manager asked me to meet him the other side of London but I had to get rail replacement and I messaged him this by accident. It was supposed to say 'rammed'.
It has been 7 years since my best friend died suddenly just after her 50th birthday.
I miss her. I still talk to her. I hear her giving me advice. She was fierce, loyal and wickedly funny.
She was loved. That's enough isn't it.
A lady I look after turned 101 today.
Tonight as I took her to bed she said: Thank you for an unforgettable birthday. It really was a rather jolly time. I'll never forget it as I'll probably be dead by the time i can forget it.
My auntie is one of the most important people in my life. Since we lost my uncle a few years ago so I got her a smart phone and I send her a picture a day in December as a digial Advent calendar (and so she knows I always think about her). I think I love it as much as she does.
I've worked in Waterstones so long that when I leave I get to keep my discount card. It's basically a contest to see who dies first. Me or Waterstones.
When I was a bookseller in London these people were just some of my famous regulars:
Benedict Cumberbatch
Tom Hardy
Bob Hoskins
Sue Perkins
Kazuo Ishiguro
Vivienne Westwood
Mel C
Helena Bonham Carter
John LeCarre
Sacha Baron Cohen
Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Rebecca Ferguson
Things I was told I couldn't do by adults as a child:
Hear:I had major ear problems. I had operations & can now hear
Go to college: I have a university degree
Hold down a job: I manage a bookshop
Have a proper relationship because I'm gay: I've been with my partner 16yrs
💪
Someone just approached me in the supermarket:
Them: 'Why do you always have a book in your hand?'
Me: 'You never know when you might be stranded for a few hours'
