My dad called this week to ask if we had scheduled a date to bless

, and i figured it was time to rip off the bandaid and tell him we've decided to cease activity in the church. He took the news well and said he had already sensed it but appreciated hearing it from me.
We gotta throw an event called Utah Twitter IRL where we can all show up and meet our Twitter mutuals in a safe and fun environment and we all wear nametags with our Twitter handles. Is there a way to turn on our location data to Twitter mutuals?
Taught Sunday school today and I steered it into a heavy discussion about empathy, authenticity and vulnerability within the church.
"We must learn to sit with those who look different, talk different, believe different, vote different or love different"
Yeah sex is cool but have you ever blocked a lane on the freeway for a semi trying to get over and then flashed your brights to let him in and he blinked his hazards to say "thank you" and then you waved at each other as you passed
I always joked that if I ever ran for an elected office my platform would be "pay teachers less and treat them worse" just to identify the terrible people who come out in support but somehow it now feels like less of a joke and more of a fastrack to the top of the GOP ticket
Then I realized I messed up by letting everyone know I have a flatbed with a Tommy gate. I DO NOT want everyone to start spamming me when they need to move large items. So I'm only going to be available on Sundays and I'll only accept payment in beer.
The perfect dilemma.

FOTR came out when I was 13yo and from that day on I really wanted to grow my hair out to be like Aragorn, but I was afraid of being made fun of for having long hair. My YM leaders, whom I looked up to, would make comments about me needing a haircut when my hair got shaggy.

I really think we should elect and sustain a Quorum of 12 Utah Twitter Apostles, which can include women. Please submit nominations below. I shouldn't have to say this, but everyone *please* be cool.
My neighbor posted on the EQ Whatsapp this morning and asked if anyone with a bigger truck bed could help him pick up something from Lowes today (Sunday) and I figured no one else would take him up on it. So I helped him out with the flatbed I just bought for work. 1/3
I recently had an Uber driver named Samuel with a very thick accent I couldn't place. I asked where he was from, and he simply said "East Africa".
And I said "alright, so like, Eritrea?"
And the guy crazy stoked to have someone correctly guess his home country on the first try.
In 2015, when we found out our first baby would be a girl, I made a FB post with a link to a gender reveal video which just redirected to a Rickroll. My in-laws didn't understand the joke and thought there was a hidden message in the song and watched the video repeatedly.
We discussed parenthood and teaching kids the best you can and just hoping they go on to do good things and become good people, and even if they do things that you wouldn't, the most important thing is to have a supportive and loving relationship with them. He completely agreed.
I really can't wait to see who surprises me and takes me up on it.
They will have to acquiesce to doing some work on Sunday as well as shopping the beer aisle at Smiths or entering the beer cave at Maverik.

My hair is long now, like I always wanted it. But it's not the hair that makes the king, but the actions of the man. I'm still working on it.

*All gender references can be adjusted to fit the reader. Divine qualities are in and for all of us.
I know things are pretty bad out there right now, but I've got at least one thing to be happy about. I hope this little guy will fight hard to make the world better in his own way.
At my wife's urging, I'm sitting in some kind of super massage chair at an IV therapy clinic, getting an intravenous immunity boost, vitamins, hydration, etc....
Some very elitist shit. I feel amazing but I've probably never hated myself more.
My parents are both very devout and faithful temple workers and the church and gospel are still central to their lives and identities, so i told him i don't want them to feel like they have to avoid all religious topics to accommodate me.
I'm in an Uber to SLC Int'l, and it's a Honda Odyssey with no bumper and every check engine light is on. The windows are all down and I believe the A/C is broken but I don't want to ask, I just turned my ball cap backwards

@beckyforutah
and the campaign team as they canvased for signatures here in Lehi today, had a great conversation about US energy, Uinta Basin oil and gas activity, railroads, gas prices... we love to see Becky and John!
They later called us in tears, grateful to finally feel seen and cared for.
I spent those last two transfers just being a hype boy and support for everyone in my zone. I don't think we got many baptisms, but those were the best three months of my entire mission.

@gopTODD
Honest question though, under what conditions is gerrymandering worth bringing up? Because if it's real and it benefits you/your party, you have a real incentive to downplay it or deny it is a problem.
Some guys in my neighborhood created a monthly guys' night where we hang out and talk and joke openly, and it's explicitly not a church activity. We played cards and told jokes, and went around the table honestly talking about how we're each doing in general.
But I always admired and loved Aragorn, in both the books and films, because I thought he exemplified everything I wanted to become as a man- powerful but humble, assertive but kind, selfless, perspicacious, wise and just.

Another excellent lunch with a bird friend! I enjoyed some Crown Burger with
@MegMorleyWalter
today and we swapped stories and dreams as well as parenting misadventures. She has some really good stuff cooking and I look forward to supporting all her future endeavors. Follow her!
We definitely had some sister suspicion ("she's fishin on the mission", likely just projection), sister disdain and definitely sister neglect. My first day in my final area as a ZL I found out that one sister companionship had been without a functioning shower for some time.

You didn't get that in your mission? Man, I loved my mission in many ways, but the sister hatred was the biggest lowlight. I was told to not be as nice to the sisters from day one in country.
Deep inside, this was the divine masculine I always wanted to become but was held back by prejudice, shame, self-hatred and dogma.
So much of our toxic culture is in fact feeding the Shadow King in all of us - the Tyrant or the Passive Weakling.
But we must rise above.

Then a few years ago I learned about the archetypes of the mature masculine, by Moore and Gillette, one of which is the archetypal King, which appears in so many myths and stories throughout human history. Aragorn is a perfect example of the King Energy in it's highest form.

Some days I wonder why I'm doing all this stuff and trying to balance two companies and depriving myself of sleep but then I remember I have to build an indoor/outdoor saltwater swimming pool for my little mermaid and I don't make the rules
Btw follow @ _justjoon_ on Insta
I was just propositioned by a stranger at Smith's (again) concerning diversifying my income through online product sales. It began with a compliment about my glasses in the baking aisle.
That last part was subtle attempt to get canceled but afterward even the most right wing codgers were thanking me for the message so I guess the inception continues
Watched The Phantom Menace with my kids this evening for the first time. One of my boys was very invested during the Duel of the Fates and was completely blindsided by Qui Gon's death. He was so devastated that he burst into tears and refused to keep watching.
Rumor has it he's got a Patreon and you can pay him to slip a beloved 90s hit of your choosing into the postlude. My $50 wants to hear interstate love song or yellow ledbetter.
Woke up today with both of my 5yo sons squished up against me on either side and it was kinda sweet and I'll certainly miss this
Also my back is killing me
Today I was able to meet up for the first time with
@Wes_theLargo
and grab lunch and enjoy a really great and deep conversation. Look for his work in an upcoming
@CityWeekly
!
It's very much the antithesis of what we call toxic masculinity, or the manifestations of the Shadow King.
I love this video essay by Like Stories of Old where it is described through modern film:

Not that my opinion means anything, but I'm R-Utah County.
Hard pass on DJT. Will def vote D in the general of he gets the GOP nomination.
This is the dumbest shit I've heard today.
"People with work that can reasonably be done from home should work in-person anyway because a lot of other people have work that can't be done from home"
Sat next to a super nice blue collar guy on the plane this morning, heading to NC for a family reunion and to see his mom for the first time in 7 years. He explained to me that Earth's gravity was lower when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, which explains why they were so big.
I love some of the designs I'm seeing here, but someone still needs to thread the needle and design a flag that is simultaneously "too gay" and "not nearly gay enough".
After yachting, Polo is probably the most pretentious sport, and the obvious choice for us here in Utah.
"Reed, do you golf?"
"No, but I do play Polo. You should come by and see my ponies sometime."

I'm half-Tongan and adopted (white middle class) and recall growing up with comments between my parents and grandparents against interracial marriage. I was like, WTF am I supposed to do when I grow up?
I was always deeply uneasy with voluntary carbon offsets. Finally, good explanation about why.
Today has been a yardwork & podcast day.
Thanks

Me when my wife asks me to do even the smallest of tasks
Also my 5yo boys any time I ask them to do anything and I can't figure out where this attitude comes from
They aren't required to sign a DEI statement, but they ARE asked to write a statement outlining their own commitment to DEI at the school and plans to foster an inclusive atmosphere...
I think it's a fair distinction.
Now, a de-risking hiring step is the boogeyman of the week.
UPDATED: Utah schools reject Gov. Cox’s claim that they require employees to sign ‘diversity statements’
@SchottHappens
and I dug into examples that Cox's office provided (and searched college websites). But they don't align with what the guv first said.
My only female co-worker will be joining the group I oversee and yesterday she pulled me aside to ask what salary she should negotiate with the boss. My head almost exploded when she told me how little they are currently paying her. She's been with us for like 4 years.
@Uber_Support
I'm actually way more upset about the first driver I confirmed who drove in circles for like 8 minutes trying to get me to cancel. The guy in the Odyssey at least showed up right away.
Sat down to tacos today with
@IGoBySteve
downtown and we had a grand old time. Friends, Steve is cool. Hit him up.
Also, hit me up so we can grab lunch or breakfast sometime. Also, grab breakfast or lunch with each other.
Also, stay hydrated and get vaxxed.
