New work in #G3journal from @Buttitta_Lab reports that enhancer decommissioning occurs in the #Drosophila eye and brain & proposes that the loss of chromatin accessibility may help maintain the postmitotic state in these tissues. 🪰 Read more: https://t.co/0vdqdwV17X

I am very excited to share the news that our study was just published today that reveals that thermal infrared is a new cue that mosquitoes use in combination with other cues to home in on people. The detection mechanism depends on TRPA1 and two opsins.

After examining the data and methods presented in Gainey, et al., bioRxiv , 2024[1][1] we conclude that the authors did not use an experimental paradigm that would have allowed them to replicate our...
I debated about whether to give this more oxygen or not, but because so few people at the MAPPS meeting knew about our response, I'm re-posting it here.

OMG!!😱 How much time and effort (not to mention anxiety and frustration) was spent on this ‘non-replication’; kudos for the detective work involved to all but also my sincere condolences on … the whole thing really!

So proud of this work from @McMurraylab et al. Read their inspiring outreach story👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
In 2018 our lab began an outreach program with a local middle school, inspired in large part by @HittingerLab Wild YEAST Program. We thought we could further engage the students in the process of identifying yeast species and also learn something about S. cerevisiae diversity 1/n
