Why is the EU, "guardian of the treaties," increasingly turning a blind eye to rule-breaking? McCourt's @rdanielkelemen suggests it's a calculated gambit. Dive into @TheEconomist's analysis of EU law enforcement:

As the United States retreats from defending fundamental rights and liberal democracy, the European Union’s status as a regulatory superpower is more necessary than ever, argue @anubradford, @rdanielkelemen, and Tommaso Pavone. https://t.co/YOvxQbz4l0

Is Peter Magyar a threat to Viktor Orbán? The regime is doing all it can to damage his credibility – but the young challenger’s popularity keeps rising. It was an honour to write this opinion piece for The @guardian

Significant: Looks like Viktor Orban will not be able to unlock frozen EU funds anytime soon.
‼️@EU_Commission is likely to reject the amendment to the law on public interest foundations, which will keep 21 Hungarian universities excluded from the #ErasmusPlus and #HorizonEurope programmes, @nepszava reports

Commission found that the legislative amendments do not adequately address the outstanding concerns on conflicts of interests in the boards of public interest trusts. On that basis, the COM concluded that the measure on pits & entities maintained by them should remain in place👇
Today’s @EU_Commission decision provides a clear road map on how to eliminate risks of conflicts of interest in the boards of Hungarian 'public interest trusts' (PITs). The current 🇭🇺 law on PITs is not good enough.

📉🚗Viktor Orbán's grand plan to make 🇭🇺 Hungary a battery and EV hub for 🇨🇳 Chinese and Asian companies is going brilliantly—if collapsing battery production is part of the strategy. Fresh stats from Hungary's Central Statistical Office paint a grim picture.

🇬🇪As #Georgia's pro-Kremlin regime moves closer to consolidating full control of the country, it’s important to recall Orbán’s role in legitimizing the fraudulent election. He arrived shortly after the vote to lend his support to the regime - and to make sure there’s no EU unity.

In normal times and in normal countries, a government responsible for such a failure would be forced to resign immediately. In Hungary? Orbán will simply blame George Soros and the left-liberal globalist illuminati reptilians. 🤷🏻♂️
On 31 December, #Hungary will lose €1,04 billion of the roughly €21 billion in cohesion funding it is entitled to between 2021-2027 because of systemic #corruption. More on this and the fate of universities excluded from the #Erasmus program in tomorrow’s @nepszava 🧐🗞️

After Spain and Poland, it’s worth watching how the Baltic countries respond. MET, an energy trader linked to Orbán and involved in Russian gas deals during the 2010s, wants to take over Achema, Lithuania’s largest fertilizer producer, while OTP Bank is bidding for Luminor Bank.
First, Spanish intelligence blocked a rail manufacturer's Hungarian takeover due to Russia-related concerns this summer. Now, Poland blocks an Orbán proxy's potential media purchase "amid threats of a hostile takeover from the East" – alleging that Russia/China are behind them...
