Hungary joined the EU (aka “Brussels”) 20 years ago today, in an expansion that has led to huge benefits. On the eve of this anniversary, I hosted another lively conversation about Hungary’s future with its next generation of entrepreneurs, scientists, advocates, and artists.
Mr. Minister, thank you. Great to spend time together & to discuss regional issues during your visit to Budapest. The Alliance between the Czech Republic & the USA couldn’t be stronger. We are grateful for your & Czechia’s friendship & leadership.

in Budapest today. Czechia and the US are at the forefront of support for Ukraine and the latest approved package of support serves as a reminder that the Transatlantic bond remains strong. 🇨🇿🤝🇺🇸
An extraordinary Seder last night with Hungarians from multiple faiths, political perspectives, and backgrounds. A rich discussion reflecting on slavery and freedom – and what the lessons of Passover mean for the “war, migration & gender” politics in Hungary. Chag Pesach Sameach!
On this day in 1944, Hungary forced Hungarian Jews into a ghetto. On this Day of Remembrance, we remember what happened, and we remember how it happened. “Never again” is not an incantation, it is a call to action. It is a commitment to always stand up to discrimination and hate.
Wonderful to celebrate the Roma community in Hungary on International Roma Day at the UCCU Roma Foundation. Moving performances, by the young and old, celebrating what brings us together.
U.S. and Hungarian artists joined us to inaugurate the “Art in Embassies” collection at the Ambassador’s Residence. Bringing together guests from diverse disciplines to share stories and perspectives was a reminder of the arts’ great power to build community.

"The spirit of our age is Democracy. All for the people, and all by the people."
Honoring Hungary's heroes today.
"U.S. policy in Hungary is best understood as a continuum of 3 elements: a continuous effort to engage by seeking dialogue; a commitment to speaking with candor about what we are seeing; and a readiness to act in response to choices the government is making."
"Hungary was not admitted to NATO because of its tragic history, but because of its commitment to a democratic future and its ability to contribute to the security of the Transatlantic community of democracies. A community from which Hungary now finds itself increasingly…
"America today is home to immigrants from all over the world, including a vibrant and proud Hungarian diaspora that sought refuge from totalitarianism in the 1930s, found safe haven after the 1956 revolution, and became an integral part of the American family."
"Hungary is in the club of democracies sworn to protect one another, a full-fledged member of the most successful military alliance the world has ever known. Hungary is far from alone."
