Still boggling that a country paying £100bn+ this year and every year for the interest on its debts decided that what it really needed was to increase (welfare) spending.

Classic example of why you shouldn’t put politicians in charge of actually running things. The chair has screwed up and lots of senior people have now left - but he should stay because he needs to pick a new DG!

The welfare bill is, give or take £10bn, now much the same as the income tax take. Pretty much every penny in income tax paid by these working people Reeves care about so much... goes to a welfare recipient.

This was actually the most disappointing thing in the whole budget - we need to get on and build, sensibly and cost-effectively - and in particular on energy projects - and we suddenly get a handbrake applied.

Weasel words. They were considering accepting ALL on Monday. Then they backed down, then they were dithering all week. Now, they've given no indication which recommendations or how many - just that in 3 months they'll be "setting out our plan" Unacceptable: ACCEPT ALL.

From the picture it seems clear this is a collection of militaria and antiques. What sense does it make to seize this from a private home, while other people are walking round with knives in public places?

These are interesting responses but unfortunately people have no idea how ruinous option 1, ad funding, would be for the whole uk TV and Radio ecosystem. I’ve just dealt with radio here. The effect on TV would be worse I suspect @LordAshcroft https://t.co/H8Qv2VjLIn

Crikey - shocking error for an accounting professor to make. Surely anyone wishing to comment on taxation should understand why dividend tax rates don’t align with personal income tax rates.

Member of the House of Lords and Emeritus Professor of Accounting apparently does not understand basic tax law or accounting. UK Dividend tax is paid on top of corporation tax. Main Corporation Tax rate is 25%. (1-25%) * (1 - 39.35%) = you take home 45% of the profit. So the

After all the grief over HS2, am I mad in thinking this is a bonkers decision. The shorter runway proposal could have coped with 98% of Heathrow flights - without moving a bloody motorway! And it was cheaper.

This absolutely right from @LiamHalligan In 35 years of running ad-funded businesses I can’t remember a run-up to Christmas this bad with clients sitting on their hands because that’s what their customers are doing. It’s a disaster, not helped by the delay to end of Nov!
