#SELECTstudy is out in @NEJM and at #AHA23 today. It's pretty much unmistakable now that obesity treatment can help people lead longer, healthier lives. Time has come to tear down the barriers to equitable access to care. HT: @ObesityAction @MarsApovian https://t.co/h2u29YatQ1

Is Metabolic Surgery Having an Identity Crisis? • The answer is “no.” • Anti-obesity Meds (AOMs) are very effective now (>20% WL) • Head-to-head studies AOM vs Surgery have not yet been conducted • Response to AOMs treatment varies: - With DM can have less response (10%WL) -

It is not hard to find systems-wide bias against people living with #obesity They are judged unfairly, and held to a different standard relative to many other people with non-communicable diseases. This bias causes further harm to their health and is widespread, even among HCPs

No idea of the criteria for the @WHO's essential drugs list inclusion, but Reuters article says decision not to include antiobesity meds was because weight comes back when you stop them, but jfc, if you stop the treatment for any chronic condition of course condition comes back
