I had the honor of co-authoring a shadow report with @shedefendsit that addresses the escalating repression of the movement to Stop Cop City and Defend the Atlanta Forest, and how these actions constitute human rights violations under international law.
Last month, the @southerncenter and @udhumanrights submitted a report to the United Nations Human Rights Committee documenting the government’s repression of the movement to Stop Cop City and Defend the Atlanta Forest.

Thank you to @udhumanrights for co-authoring this report to the @UN Human Rights Committee on political repression & #StopCopCity. Gratitude to @theCCR & @CommunityMvt for your thematic report. Sending power to @KMichelle_Atl who is in Geneva advocating. Tell our brave stories.

it is a lot, and enraging, but I'd encourage folks to read this if they can get through it. Particularly the parts about mutual aid, collectivism, and social solidarity as they are framed with in this indictment. I find all of it unsettling and upsetting, but that bit especially.

The Cop City RICO indictments allege the date when George Floyd was murdered by the police as the start of the "racketeering enterprise." Let that sink in. The day a movement to abolish the police took on new life is the day for them a criminal enterprise was born.

1/Nine years have passed since Mike Brown was shot and killed by a police officer named Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri. For at least four hours, his lifeless body lay in the middle of Canfield Drive. In the aftermath, people took to the streets of Ferguson for over 400 days.

This is me too and I’d add how odd it is to feel shame (or pride!) for your discipline or professional association, as I’ve seen many express. That kind of attachment to the field just doesn’t resonate with me, feels misplaced.
I’m a little bit surprised by how little I care about the APSA fracas. I mean, seems to me it was a difficult decision but APSA decided wrong. But I haven’t been a member for years, haven’t gone to the conference in years, and just don’t care about political science anymore.

The Dayton Police Department has quit ShotSpotter, the controversial gunshot detection tool. But a DPD representative told Bolts the department was never aware of the locations of sensors nor when — or even if — they were removed from Dayton’s streets:

Police across the country face increased pressure to drop the controversial technology as researchers and activists question its effectiveness.

for @thenation, I wrote about last week's politically motivated arrests/kidnappings of bail fund organizers, the broader state repression of protest against Cop City, and what this means for Atlanta (and the rest of the country)

Mass arrests. Trumped-up charges. Brutal violence. They’re all part of the city’s effort to destroy the movement against the infamous police facility.
