I normally like to concentrate on putting forward policy instead of singling out others in the Dáil.
But when you have TDs opposing just for the sake of populism, without any attempt at honestly engaging, I have no problem calling them out for their lies and inaccuracies.
By next week, you will no longer need planning permission to cover your roof with solar panels🎉
Delighted the
@DeptHousingIRL
Committee approved our proposals today, looking forward to signing regulations into law next week

Those borders have not changed, and Russia’s use of force will not change them.”
I am honoured to have been appointed to the role of Minister of State for European Affairs by An Taoiseach
@LeoVaradkar
Really looking forward to starting this important work alongside An Taoiseach, An Tánaiste and my European counterparts at this critical time for Europe.
Only two Sinn Fein TD’s (Martin Kenny & Pa Daly) which is 20% of their allocation turned up to vote on the retention of our Special Criminal Court which proves SF are weak on crime. This court has convicted some of our most violent gangland criminals over the past five decades.
Today was thankfully my last day in isolation, after a difficult period with the passing of my Dad followed by catching Covid.
Regardless age, the passing of a parent is very tough. Thanks for all the kind messages over the past fortnight, the support is very much appreciated.
It’s official… legislation to provide maternity leave for Councillors has been approved by the Dáil and Seanad 🎉
Very grateful to all who have engaged with me and contributed to the process over the last two years, to get us to this point
@DeptHousingIRL
@FineGael
After avoiding qs all week, Matt Carthy confirms today that Sinn Fein may not release their budget till MONDAY. One day before the budget.
For a party that says they want to lead Gov, clearly they don’t want their policies scrutinised, or are still trying to work out the maths.
This morning I'm announcing €215,000 split between the political parties and independent groups to support the running of more women and diverse candidates at the next local elections.
Wishing my good friend
@LeoVaradkar
the very best; it was a privilege to work alongside him, working particularly closely in my EU Affairs role.
Having seen first-hand the respect he commands across European and global politics, he will be huge loss to Fine Gael and this State.
It doesn’t take an Accountant to see massive discrepancies, including sums of hundreds of thousands of euros, contained in
@sinnfeinireland
accounts.
SF President Mary Lou McDonald and treasurer Pearse Doherty have serious questions to answer.
After a years’ worth of engagement and work, it’s official: City and County Councillors will soon have access to maternity leave. We must see diversity and gender equality in our Local Authorities, and this is one measure which will help

Mullingar successfully won the bid to host the Fleadh 2020! Well done to everyone involved in what was a huge team effort.

again proposing in the North and opposing in the South; social housing rents will increase by 2.7% in Northern Ireland shortly due to a decision made by a SF Minister.
People need targeted supports, not tokenistic and unimplementable bills and motions.
A very positive step today with the launch of the Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation Against Ukraine. Ireland is a founding member.
An important stride towards justice for the Ukrainian people 🇺🇦
I am announcing €150,000 in funding for eight political parties/organisations aimed at encouraging more women to run in the Local Elections in 2024
#MoreWomen
@DeptHousingIRL
The deal reached today is a testament the hard work and commitment shown by the EU, led by
@MarosSefcovic
, & the UK.
We now have a real opportunity to move into a new phase of EU-UK relations, and to face into global challenges as partners.
I was delighted to meet the new Finnish Minister for European Affairs
@adleande
earlier today 👋
Ireland work closely with Finland in the EU, we have a similar size population and we align on a number of key policy areas 🇫🇮 🇮🇪
Social media abuse & family-unfriendly working hours are two common barriers to women entering local politics.
That's why today I am allocating €23,000 to

Bizarre to hear Pearse Doherty talking about managing the economy responsibly on

call on the Govt to spend more on absolutely everything, every single day of the week.

It was an honour to give the oration in memory of Brigadier General Tom O’Connor Scarteen and Captain John O’Connor Scarteen, who were killed in Kenmare 100 years ago during the Civil War.

I am very grateful for all the support I received and to significantly increase my vote from
2016 is very special. I will do my very best in the 33rd Dáil for this constituency and will never take your support for granted.
No business that has been asked to close should have to pay rates for the duration of the restrictions.
I am working with my officials to put a further rates waiver in place & ensure our Local Authorities are fully compensated for the loss of critical income

@AILGIRE
Glad to have placed Ireland’s vote for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace, in line with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations 🇮🇪 🇺🇦 🇺🇳
Today the nations of the world came together in New York to vote on a resolution concerning a comprehensive, just & lasting peace in
#Ukraine
.
1⃣4⃣1⃣countries - a clear majority of the General Assembly - voted for this resolution.
The world has spoken. It stands with Ukraine🇺🇦
After two weeks the million dollar question remains unanswered, Where in Europe is the database stored ? That’s if it is in Europe... So much for transparency!
It is hard to make sense of the news of Ashling Murphy, a young woman in the prime of her life, taken in a horrific and senseless manner. My thoughts are with her family, friends and the Midlands community.
There is a responsibility on us all to end violence against women.
I have allocated €62,000 to support women councillors establish caucuses in their areas.
It is imperative that we increase the number of women in Local Government and as Minister, I am determined to see a marked increase by 2024

Good to see our 1 year old baby Ted getting the message! Keep hand hygiene up, keep your distance & wear a mask. We can make it much harder for the virus to spread taking these actions 👍👍
Looking forward to bringing proposals on Maternity Leave for Councillors to Cabinet in the coming weeks.
It's completely unacceptable that it is not currently in place.
We can't expect to attract or retain women Councillors if we don't facilitate basic rights.
Great to hear
@peterburkefg
telling Seanad members that proposals for maternity leave for councillors will hopefully come before Cabinet very soon! Also great recognition of work of

I travelled to Cork yesterday to visit the Halting Site referenced in the recent OCO report. Sincere thanks to the residents who welcomed me into their homes and showed me the conditions they are living in. They are completely unacceptable.
Tonight in the Dáil is strange. Sinn Fein TDs making a series of stirring speeches on pensions and promising to make it 65 “if they were in government”, when it is 66 in Northern Ireland and due to increase to 67 and 68. And it is €53 less per week in Northern Ireland. Odd.
Such heartbreaking news this evening that Pat Smullen has passed away. Champion jockey and an inspirational figure in racing and Irish society. He achieved so much & touched so many. May he rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family tonight.
Happy to announce further Outdoor Summer Assistance funding today for each of our Local Authorities to be used for the provision/maintenance of portaloos, bins, pedestrianisation or other necessary facilities needed by our City and County Councils over the summer.
