The most common sin of colored scatterplots is not (at least) plotting the points in random order. Plotly is worst at this! It draws one color at a time. (langevitour will randomize the order of your points, by the way. This is not an optional feature.).
We also looked at the MNIST (handwritten digits) data where there is a ground truth (the number). Here we found that t-SNE and UMAP can fool even just by the way the plots are colored! Also they scramble the points just as they do cells in #scRNAseq. Another failed control. 19/
