This cynical take from Schopenhauer cannot work as an equilibrium in games of communication. If people never back down, what’s the point of trying to convince each other? .Hence, there are benefits to backing down: the reputational benefits of being seen as intellectually honest.

Interesting discussion about recent studies on the effects of a basic income.
It's a bit painful for me to share this, but I respect @KelseyTuoc (and @evavivalt) a lot, and I think they're basically right: the most rigorous recent studies on basic income and cash transfers (in rich countries) have yielded pretty disappointing results.
