I will always defend history as a popular pursuit by normies. I think gate-keeping someone because they don't have a PhD is gross. Where Roman Helmet Guy has drawn my ire is in his refusal to even admit that *maybe* some people who do history full-time may also know something.
@yuanyi_z Does it really matter? I don't think the helmet guy is a classicist scholar. Just a guy with a keen interest. What is the point of gatekeeping the field? It's not like he's pretending to be a academic or something. I usually like your takes but this is needlessly punching down

I don't see any real reason of being on this site anymore. There are no 'philosophical discussions,' & no real communities out there (which I was seeking earnestly). It is just bunch of 'clerics' "raising a great dust in the air," spewing their own self-congratulatory dogmaticism

Nietzsche's politics can't be represented in a democratic form because it will always be subjected to the suffocating mediocrity and insidious pathologies of the mass man.

I’m pretty sure that identifying an intellectual tradition as the causal mechanism for the collapse of an entire social phenomena is the textbook definition of idealism (a term I throw around with extreme caution but sometimes the shoe fits)
NEW EP! The term ‘postmodernism’ is thrown around a lot by right-wing shock-jocks like Jordan Peterson, often in tandem with Marxism: although these two sets of ideas are totally opposed. In this episode, we take on this impenetrable and ultimately reactionary school. Link in 🧵

For some reason this never applies to Christian philosophy. When I covered Pascal, Kierkegaard, and Girard, no one was like “oh look salts is Christian now” Also, the episode wasn’t even about Daoism per se, but that’s beside the point.

Why do people assume that when I cover a topic on the show it’s an indication of my ideology changing Multiple comments about me going in a Daoist direction or down a Nietzsche to Daoist pipeline. ????

Zhuangzi's dream of the butterfly is like Heraclitus' can't step in the same river twice. Everyone has heard them, intro to phil stuff, very easy to grasp. But over the years, the more you study their thought, the more you come to appreciate the greatest hits.

You can sign up for this course at @acidhorizonpod in which I will spend hours exegesizing the Nietzschean theory of truth. Covering material here not discussed on the podcast. Certainly, I have never talked about the topic to this depth.
