in 2018, I observed external joy & adoration & the dysfunction behind the scenes. A viscountess told me Meghan would never be accepted & a royal commentator muttered loud enough for me to hear, the wedding was “too black”

The fact this needs to be said so explicitly shows how far down the rabbit hole many are. Absolutely this. It is NOT normal. It is UNJUSTIFIABLE. What a distressing time
Global apathy - is stopping 7.7 million people displaced by war in Sudan, currently the LARGEST humanitarian crisis in the world - get the empathy, support, political interest and media attention they need to help them survive. Global apathy

The way people are going out of their way to defend strangulation as a legitimate method of restraint by a very large Asian man towards a much smaller Black woman shows how desensitised so many of you are to violence against black women. Rancid
The majority of people sending hate messages to Meghan online were white women. This doc is very revealing. This is why my book uncompromisingly unpacks how white women uphold white supremacy & how violent & dangerous they were throughout the T/A slave trade & far beyond it.
This is Arthur Roberts. A Black soldier, who despite racism in the army, served in WW1 & 2. He died in a care home in Scotland in 1982 - he often locked himself in his room on Remembrance Day, feeling forgotten about due to the lack of visibility of black war veterans.
It’s Black History Month this month in the U.K. The theme is ‘saluting our sisters’ to acknowledge how under celebrated and how often the work of black women is erased. Looking forward to seeing how Black women will be uplifted and celebrated this month.
I loathe how ‘unconscious bias’ seems to be in everyone’s lexicon again, thanks to Prince Harry’s inability to name racism.
Almost as if being a recipient of someone’s ‘unconscious bias’ is somehow less harmful. It isn’t. It also absolves responsibility for harmful actions. Stop!
Non-Black folks raising black or mixed- black children, need to do their work the most. So much research shows taking a “colour-blind” approach to raising children has the opposite effect. Racism is a public health issue. You are NOT safeguarding your kids by ignoring racism.
"I'm not raising black children. I'm raising children." UFC fighter Michael Chandler speaks about his approach to parenting his two black adopted sons and admits there have been tough questions about skin color.

Rancid. Utterly rancid.
Chris Kaba was an unarmed young black man, minding his own business driving a nice car. Police who have a disordered fear response to black people are a danger to us and should not be in the force - too many have gotten away with murder for too long
We depend on our brave firearms officers to protect us from the most dangerous & violent in society. In the interest of public safety they have to make split-second decisions under extraordinary pressures. 1/3

documentary really does hold a mirror up to British press (which is 94% white and 0.2% Black). It is not painted in a good light. But the media has ALWAYS played a firm, powerful & at times coercive role in influencing public opinion & behaviour. A THREAD (1)
Non-black Jews really need to stop doing this. Stop using Black people as pawns to make false equivalences to make poor points. Disgraceful behaviour and on Stephen Lawrence Day as well.
This is how white supremacy functions when racism is highlighted. From the predictable, tedious and defensive “self avowed non-racists” to the overt attacks & smear campain. Causing Ngozi to have to temporarily close her charity due to safety concerns.
“This must stop” indeed. I hope the
@TheRSC
are properly safeguarding Francesca Amewudah-Rivers and other Black cast members as well as their Black and Brown staff members. We have a serious problem with racism in Britain. Here to support 🙏🏾
Gosh the anti-blackness I experience from white liberal women - claiming to be anti-racist- is something else. They then denigrate you with peers, go all childish mean-girl on you, except it’s not childish, it’s violent. To be anti-racist is to acknowledge & work on your racism.
No we don’t routinely show ‘concern’ over skin colour Trevor. Stop gaslighting other black people - women in particular- who speak up about racism.
I’m going to start talking more about black enablers who are foot soldiers for white supremacy. You folk wear me the f**k out

I’m noticing a pattern. I’m interested in why
@British_Airways
seem to routinely use their old fleet of planes to fly passengers to Black majority country’s and use their nice new fleets on every single trip I’ve taken to white majority countries. Why?
I think Diversity and Inclusion, especially when anti-racism is wrapped up in it, is a problem and by design, is ineffective. If we can’t even name what it is we’re ‘diversifying from’ - eg: white supremacy- how are we even going to get started?
Scaring white people? It doesn’t take much then does it. Stop this nonsense Trevor. And stop undermining other people’s experiences of racism. It isn’t highlighting racism that stops social progress, it’s the ACTUAL racism that ends up being debated, instead of addressed.
Last night a white woman told me I NEED to listen to and respect her knowledge about racism - because I DON’T know. This why I understand why some folks liken whiteness to psychosis.
White people spend so much time trying to convince Black folks they aren’t racist-but who are you trying to convince? Because we can smell racism before its left your mouth. Even Stephen Lawrence’s murderers maintained they weren’t racist. You have no credibility on the subject.
I remain perplexed at why white folks I work with get bent out of shape when I highlight their racism. I will not enable racism by ignoring it. To be anti-racist is to acknowledge & withstand being given feedback on your racism again & again. To learn, grow, repair & do better.

To be clear - as I can’t keep up the racist stereotypes she claims here, were made up - were in fact NOT made up by this reviewer and indeed in her book. Words she had written and words many editors, copywriters and her publishers saw fit to publish?
David Harewood to become Rada’s first Black president in its 120 year existence. Cynthia Erivo as Vice President. Both had to move to the US to be taken seriously in the UK ‘David Harewood: teach young actors resilience to face industry’s brutal side’
Inconsequential acts to make majority white folk feel less guilty are maddening. How about we stop with performative placards and actually meaningfully address the racism that continues to pervade us.
Racism robs you of so much: Birthdays spent, carefree lives, joy, health, dignity & in the worst cases - life. 30 years on - many need to step up.

“The national conversation on racism seems to be stuck in an endless loop”
It’s stuck in an endless loop because folks keep framing racism as a debate. It isn’t.
Repeat after me: white people are not indigenous to Britain, white people are not indigenous to Britain, white people are not indigenous to Britain, white people are not indigenous to Britain.
The wilful historical and racial illiteracy in this country is rancid.

I’m not sharing the video circulating of Rishi Sunak & his transphobia & disregard for human life.This is a convenient distraction from doing his damn job. Teacher strikes, NHS strikes rampant. My father had cancer surgery in March & hasn’t seen his oncologist since. Diabolical
This years theme for Black History Month is ‘Saluting Our Sisters’ to acknowledge the lack of celebration & erasure of the contributions of Black women. I’m seeing apathy, or folks going out of their way to salute black men instead. You cannot make this up. My worst BHM to date.
Lack of empathy swiftly leads to dehumanisation - both are the key ingredients to every single human genocide on this planet. I am scared by the growing lack of empathy I’m seeing. Scared.

No you don’t “draw a line” under racism. That’s why it’s still rampant and unaddressed in this country. You don’t draw a line under racist abuse and inciting violence. You hold folks and the institutions that enable it, accountable.

This beautiful black woman’s life was cut short in 1993 by racist immigration officials and the Met police in Britain. Her story is relatively unknown, which is why it was important for me to intentionally put ink to her name in my book- The Good Ally. Joy Gardner - not forgotten
🧵On this day 30 years ago Joy Gardner was killed by the Met Police. Their now disbanded Alien Deportation Group (ADG) broke down the door of her home in the early hours of the morning on 28 July 1993. 1/4
I remained stunned at how many trauma experts, dubbed as leaders in their field, are not talking about the link between racism & trauma, have no racial literacy & won’t acknowledge how much of western medicine was founded in racism. Unethical. We cannot address what isn’t named.
The racists seem to be out in full force on Twitter today. Mad that the heinous murder of a young black boy and simply honouring their memory can agitate them so much. Rancid behaviour. I hope they get the help they need. Until then, my block button is getting another workout
‘Deeply engrained racism’ there I fixed it. This attempts to try to minimise the severity of medical racism by using the word ‘bias’ is nothing but a PR exercise. Western medicine IS founded in medical racism. We can’t address what we refuse to name.
Imagine being more offended by someone naming white supremacy then actually addressing the white supremacist ideology and social practice that is continuing to lead to racist outcomes in this country, especially in medicine - disgraceful
@TheBMA
We often only associate grief with death. But grief is a natural response to ANY kind of loss - including loss of identity / self. Which is why I see grief a LOT in anti-racism work. In The Good Ally I adapt Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, 5 stages of grief to highlight common responses…
This is why my work unapologetically centres racism through an anti-black lens. If you don’t understand that the birthplace of racism was anti-blackness - everything will confuse you. I really hope Halle Bailey is being properly safeguarded during this time.
Remembering the time I was asked to speak about diversity and equality at London Book Fair - (an event that can command over £200 per delegate) - for free…
“You don’t get to pick up the anti-racist backpack and simply take it off because the load got too heavy” After all those ego driven public declarations, I could write another book on this subject alone.

standards. Complain here:
Parade a black woman naked through the streets whilst being pelted by shit. Clarkson harks back to the days when white men could kill, rape and punish black people with the whip and by forcing them to eat Massa’s excrement. He's no Thomas Clarkson more Thomas Thistlewood.
Just because someone has black or brown skin doesn’t automatically make them an expert in understanding & discussing the nuances of systemic racism. If you’re going to insist on “debating” racism on national television pls call in experts - it’s damaging.
@itvstudios
@loosewomen
The way white women in D&I plagiarise my work is rancid. Good work will always inspire others. We can be inspired and simply credit - or move a point forward with our own skill & thinking. To copy my work about anti-racism, then publish a book on it - is white supremacy.
This continues to be incredibly upsetting & absolutely abhorrent that there is no call for accountability in that rotten institution. Noone considers the secondary trauma & ongoing pain this causes to the Lawrence family & those closest to this. Absolutely diabolical decision
NEW: Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Stephen Lawrence’s mother, has said the CPS' decision not to charge four retired officers involved in the original murder investigation for misconduct has caused her “immense distress”. She will seek a review of the decision.
The story of Emmett Till’s murder is one I return to again & again, when I teach anti-racism students how white women are not innocent when it comes to upholding white supremacy - how historically they have been dangerous key perpetrators & enablers…
Notice how the media positions racism on TV-not as discussion, but debate. Ways we don’t see sexual discrimination being positioned. Notice who is brought in to speak, not experts, not historians, not prominent Black British civil rights activists still fighting. It’s deliberate
@ProfSunnySingh
Despair is also a normal and understandable response to what people are witnessing and experiencing. Despair is an option. Just don’t stay there too long.
This sadly isn’t new knowledge. I must stress, this ISN’T as a result of there being something inherently wrong with black children, but further evidence of the damaging impact of racism.
Racism IS a public health issue - What are you doing about it?
Newsflash - The murderers of Stephen’s Lawrence said they weren’t racist - AFTER being caught on camera doing the most heinous racist acts. White folk- you have ZERO authority here. To loosely quote Franz Fanon “a racist cannot define a racist” we’re not your damn props
Just a quick PSA for racists.
Declaring you aren’t racist… and citing the proof of the presence of “Black friends” - has the opposite (if more accurate) effect to the one you want.
@lib_thinks
@BCWLindsay
No. It’s about racism - specifically anti-blackness and being hunted down by white people because of the colour of ones skin. That’s not something that white women experience. So no. Not the same. As a black woman I am asking you to please stop and reflect on your comment 🙏🏾
It’s been a long 24 hours. When will folks stop debating racism in the press like it’s a sporting event? Experiencing racism is trauma- stop treating it like it’s entertainment. Also stop infantilising elders. Being 83 does not absolve you of racism.
@kaitborsay
@TimesRadio
One of the reasons racism - specifically anti-blackness, remains rampant, is
Black people publicly undermining other Black people’s experience of racism - because they “don’t see it that way” Doing white supremacy’s work on its behalf. Dangerous. Racism is abuse. Stop this BS.
So.... I have news.
I have longed to bring anti-racism work to as many people as possible and now, finally that dream is being realised. Today, I am delighted to be able to formally announce (the wait has been painful lol!) my debut book; The Good Ally…

To all the writers out there. The Good Ally (and it’s earlier iterations) was pitched to 31 publishers before I got 2 yes’s over a 14 month period. So that’s 31 no’s. Don’t give up.
0.54% of the U.K. population is made up of people seeking refuge in the U.K. to be exact. These repulsive policies and scaremongering from the Conservatives is not new, but is absolutely steeped in racism -and xenophobia. It is fear based and it is absolutely anti-human.
@a_webb
@secrettory12
There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries. This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?
‘White privilege’ is almost giving me as much disdain as ‘bias’ - if we keep using a more palatable ‘white privilege’ -when we really mean white supremacy and ‘bias’ when we mean racism. How are we going to address what we can’t even name? 1st step to change is naming the issue.
Who are you learning about anti-racism from? What is their adjacency to whiteness? Are they talking about their anti-blackness/ if they are lighter skinned, how they benefit from colourism? If we’re unpacking white supremacy, that HAS to include colourism.
It’s becoming more & more apparent that my publishers do not give a damn about mine or other black authors psychological safety. It is no longer a case of not understanding what is required to keep black talent safe at large scale events. It’s wilful refusal.
Is it any wonder
#HarryandMeghan
chose to move themselves out of harms way and emancipate themselves from the Royal Family and the British press?! Diabolical. (8)
@marcusryder
🙏🏾 I write similar in TGA. We go round & round in circles & end up ignoring white supremacy & fail to address the societal harm. If we label antisemitism as racism we miss important nuances & undermine the experiences of Jews who are black & experience antisemitism AND racism.

Too many. From being called n***er, to pay inequity, having food rubbed in my face (6yo) by a white woman & told I was disgusting. As someone w/ lineage lost to slavery, having to pay back the debt from reparations to white slavers through MY taxes until 2015. Ultimate mockery.
Controlling and manipulating narrative and depicting how groups of people are spoken about depending on their melanin - from ‘expats’ vs ‘immigrants’ to ‘protestors’ vs ‘rioters’, instilling fear and hatred or both. (2)
And just like that 3 years of writing, who knows how long researching, a lot of moments of doubt & The Good Ally is out in the world! Thank you
@hqstories
If you could support this debut author please grab your copy and share today it would mean a lot.
A reason why you and so many don’t, is because it was hidden under something called “Operation Legacy”. The British government hid and destroyed records of abuse and torture. Some Kenyans successfully sued via the high court here. Rancid
It shows up time and time again in my work and that of others, historically and in my personal life. The most emotionally violent and perpetrators of racism are white women. They are not innocent bystanders when it comes to white supremacy. They are the breeding ground
Well. Naturally. We’re not “on trend” anymore. Similar pattern in publishing tracks back right through to the height of civil rights movements in the 60’s and it ISN’T because authors aren’t writing these stories…
