My parents are celebrating their 72nd wedding anniversary tomorrow. They were married May 29, 1949 and they are the most loving, devoted, parents and creators of good things for the community and the country ever. If you send greetings with a reply, I'll share it with them.
Please help me gather birthday wishes for my dad, who turns 96 on 1/17. WWII vet, JFK's FCC Chair (his criticism of television led Gilligan's Island creator S. Schwartz to name the SS Minnow after him as an insult), co-founder of PBS and the Presidential debates, world's best dad
Happy 97th birthday Jan 17 to my wonderful dad, Newton Minow, co founder of the Presidential debates and
@PBS
, chair of
@FCC
61-63. And Barack Obama met Michelle in his office. World’s best dad! I’m
@DonaldJTrumpJr
Actually he was hand picked by California voters nine times with a majority of the vote every time with no help from Russia, more than you or your father can say.
A reminder that Neil Gorsuch’s mom was Reagan’s EPA Administrator and had to resign in disgrace. She was the first agency director in history to be cited for contempt of congress.
During her tenure she slashed the EPA budget and let pollution run rampant.
@TomiLahren
A racist insult does not make your claim (I won't dignify it by calling it an argument) any more supportable. It just makes you look shrill and desperate. If your originalist pals were consistent, they would admit it applies only to muskets and militias.
@ThatEricAlper
I’ve spoken to six Presidents and five First Ladies. But maybe this one is the most famous. (Eleanor Roosevelt — I’m the one in pigtails).
@RexChapman
The SS Minnow on Gillian’s Island was named after my dad. It was intended as an insult in response to my dad’s criticism of television but were were delighted. Also, our cat was named after another Bob Denver role: Maynard.
@lifesafeast
The sinking ship on Gillian’s Island was named as an insult to my wonderful dad, Newton Minow, then Chairman of the FCC, for calling TV a vast wasteland.
59 years ago today my Dad, the Chairman of the
@FCC
told the broadcasters they had created "a vast wasteland." Sherwood Schwartz was so insulted he named the sinking ship on Gilligan's Island after him. (We're very proud.).

The SS Minnow on Gilligan’s Island was named after my dad, Newton Minow, who as chairman of the FCC said television was a vast wasteland. Intended as an insult, but we are thrilled. (Celebrating my parents’ 70th anniversary this weekend.)
@CarolBlymire
Sigh. I wrote about this syndrome a while ago, though yours is such an extreme example that I think you may be right about her not being neurotypical.
@megynkelly
Let me help you. They were relentlessly attacked for supporting child separation, COVID-19 denial and incompetence, treason, corruption, incompetence, cruelty, and racism. Now, point me to the place where they respected supporters of President Obama.
#January6th
My father survived the Depression, WWII, the McCarthy era, the murders of JFK, RFK. MLK, Evers, and X, and much, much more, but he said the insurrection on January 6 was the worst because it was Americans attacking democracy, truth, the rule of law, and honor.
@JoshMankiewicz
@amandadeibert
But he did/does a lot to make it better, including working to create (and later chair) PBS, getting the original funding for Sesame Street, helping to launch the first telecommunications satellite, helping to create the Presidential debates, and much, much more.
@Acyn
Healthcare subsidies: this is not money in their pockets. This is payment fir medical treatment. Unemployment: temporary $ when you lose your job and you have a limited time to find an new one before it runs out. Poor people are not the problem. Jobs that don’t pay enough are.
@JonSchweppe
@LindseyGrahamSC
How about starting with admitting a majority of Americans consider your views morally indefensible instead of admitting that you will abandon principles you claim are moral imperatives just to win elections.
@NormOrnstein
@JakeSherman
I have ZERO compassion for those who suddenly and much too late realize that what happens to other children might apply to theirs. You don't need to have a daughter to care about reproductive health, a gay kid to care about LGBTQIA+, a child to care about murder in schools.

And...he helped start the Presidential debates, PBS, the first telecommunications satellite, and much much more, plus the Obamas met when he was a summer intern in my dad's office and she was the associate assigned to supervise him. My parents ran into them on their first date.

If Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon could debate their opponents remotely, so can Donald Trump. And if first graders can go to school remotely, Donald Trump can debate remotely. And if Donald Trump can call into Hannity, he can call into the debate.

I'm going to say butternut squash (made with one Granny Smith apple), which tastes like crisp fall air blowing through red and yellow leaves.
@tertiagillett
Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes. There is no time ever that the answer to the question "Should I write to tell someone who helped me that things are working out well?" is anything but YES.
@courtneyellis
The SS Minnow on Gilligan's Island was named as an insult to my dad, Newton Minow the head of the FCC under Kennedy, who told the networks television was a "vast wasteland" and they had to do better if they wanted to get licenses to broadcast. Dad is 95, still doing great.
@JoshuaConkel
For the thousandth time: if a full-time worker cannot support a family and qualifies for programs like SNAP, then it is the employer that is a welfare queen, subsidized by taxpayers, externalizing its costs and overpaying its executives.

Hilarious parody of a clueless man baby terrified he can’t please a woman, dude! You really captured that combination of grandiosity and cowering self-loathing.
@cmclymer
Because you are a woman, by definition whatever you do is feminine. What you’re worried about is how people interpret it. That’s them, not you. Okay the imposter syndrome is you, but that’s femme. And human. Love ya sister.
@FilmUpdates
Yep. Actors, directors, costume designers, cinematographers, score composers, SFX people -- no one works until the writer comes up with the idea.
Somehow those who whine loudest about their freedom of speech never seem to understand that other people get to use their speech to tell them that they are idiots.
NEW: Jared Schmeck, the Oregon father who told Joe Biden “Let’s go Brandon” during a Christmas Eve livestreamed call, is now complaining about the backlash: “I am being attacked for utilizing my freedom of speech.”

If the Senate does not call Bolton as a witness,

Because the financial services industry has shown itself to be so honorable and capable or because they pour an avalanche of money into lobbying and campaign contributions to protect themselves from oversight and competition? I'd prefer USPS.

School administrators should exercise their free speech rights by including a copy of this photo in every college application transcript submitted by these young men.
Newton Minow, former head of the FCC who gave the famous "vast wasteland" about the state of tv and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama, was born on January 17, 1926. I recommend following his daughter btw

Elected officials are not supposed to comment on pending criminal charges. But for the love of God, if they do, they are not supposed to make it harder for prosecutors to make their case by undermining them.

"Abuse of power" is not the same thing as saying outside of his authority. If you are saying that having the power is the same thing as having no accountability for the way it is exercised, then I look forward to your approval of all actions taken by President Biden.

Pretty sure it's JFK. I'm the oldest girl. With my parents, Newton and Josephine Minow and my sisters, Martha and Mary in the Oval Office. May 29, 1963.

Tucker Carlson is just another privileged elite trying to explain why he's really the persecuted victim. He just makes stuff up, never documents his assertions, and never brings on anyone who can counter his pathetic claims. Shame on you for perpetuating his fictions.
And to you, Mr. Reiner, with thanks for all the characters and stories you've created, from Your Show of Shows to the Dick Van Dyke Show to The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming to your Forky episode.
This is the program Dad always said was one of his all-time favorites, along with

Horrific abuse of employees is not retroactively justified by philanthropy. I love libraries and appreciate Carnegie’s other philanthropic contributions. But we cannot let wealthy people determine policy priorities, whether through charity or campaign contributions.
@realDonaldTrump
I can understand why you are confused. When you were not in office, press reported your nutty comments as clickbait. Now that you have actual responsibilities, they fact check you. Insults are not argument. If you want to disprove news reports, try actual facts and logic. See?

An unfunny "joke" about the deaths of a pet and a child. The Republican Party encapsulated in all of its savage, narcissistic, nasty, ugliness. Nicely done, you absolute human garbage.

No, what is contemptuous and unacceptable is Mitch McConnell refusing to hold hearings on Merrick Garland or approve Obama's judicial appointees, then ramming through unqualified Federalist Society stooges and now, shamelessly hypocritical, a last-minute SCOTUS nominee.
On the first Father's Day without my dad, Newton Minow, I remember how he would say the "coffee" we made was so delicious he had to take it into the bathroom and drink it while he was shaving. We were so proud! And prouder when we figured out what he really meant.
