Abuse follows a recurring pattern: tension builds, an incident occurs, followed by reconciliation and a brief honeymoon phase before the cycle repeats. Understanding this cycle is the first step toward breaking it.

Calls to the Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline followed the same pattern during this time, with a 80% increased in calls received on 30th December compared to 25th December as many abusive relationships saw tensions begin to rise.

The @policeservice.ni released statistics surrounding the number of domestic abuse calls they received over the Christmas and New Year period. For many, the festive season amplifies the cycle of abuse, with heightened stress leading to more tension and incidents. 🧵
