In Florida it's called a "borrow pit", where dirt is dug to build overpasses (or banking). The high water table fills any such excavation. Sax Lloyd was the local Buick dealer and a good friend of Big Bill France, who named the "lake" for him.
I was today years old when I learned Lake Lloyd exists because that’s where they dug the dirt to build Daytona’s banking.
