Family first: Gaye, Scott and Kaitlyn. Lead voice of
@FOXSports
auto racing since 1998. Half-fast Historic Trans Am racer. . Check out "Joy Riding" on YouTube.
My son Scott and I have started a YouTube channel to share our love of road and race cars, newer and vintage. It's called "Joy Riding" and it launches today... enjoy!
Our sport has always had "funded" drivers.
But its high time a few of these privileged kids, powered by daddy's pile of cash, realize this whole sport doesn't exist just to make their dreams come true.
Take some time to learn from those who've WORKED their way to the top.
I know everyone is searching for updates and answers this morning, and I wish I had news for you. We all must remain hopeful and keep Ryan in our prayers. The hospital will release updates as they become available. Waiting is hard, but speculating serves no purpose.
When Davey Allison told his dad he wanted to race, Bobby put him to work in the race shop... sweeping floors. He graduated to parts washing, then disassembly, then assembly and fabrication.
When he finally got in a race car, he fully respected what it took to put it on track.
Not really. Guest analysts are free to project their experience and opinions, we recognize and value the wins and teams they have been a part of.
The emotion in Kurt’s voice at the end was TV magic… you don’t get that from an impartial analyst.
3) I'm done clapping back at the few who offer only negativity, %$#&!, or personal attacks.
Hope you enjoy watching the races as much as I enjoy bringing them to you. Its a privilege, not taken lightly, and a labor of love.
Thanks for all the messages of support. Let's move on.
Many of you read and commented on Kyle Larson's essay.
He made an offhanded but very costly remark out of admitted ignorance. He seems aware, repentant, motivated to be an agent for change, and is proving it.
Nearly all of you believe he deserves a second chance. Agreed.
I'm gutted. No one brought more to a race telecast than
@JeffGordonWeb
: 93 wins 4 titles, current inside knowledge of how
@Nascar
Cup teams win and struggle.
Jeff's concise factual style, humor and concerted effort to avoid bias will be a playbook for future
@FOXSports
analysts.
We've become so accustomed to cars flipping, sliding in a shower of sparks at these big tracks, then the drivers climb out and wave to the crowd... because THEY ALWAYS CAN.
Monday's finish was a jarring wakeup call to everyone who loves the sport.
Yes, Stewart moved Hamlin for his 2016 Sonoma win. I misremembered it (2x), then later made a correction.
I'll see you in Daytona from the
@NascaronFOX
booth, with Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, and occasional special guests.
Hope you enjoy the rest of this
#Nascar
season on
@NBC
.
Just my 2 cents... I wish Cup teams were given more leeway with side number placement for the annual throwback weekend.
There's no real downside, and we would all enjoy the creativity.
Thanks, but no. Alan Kulwicki was very proud of his heritage. It was my great honor to present him for induction to the Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame, where they enjoyed hearing of his creation of the "Polish Victory Lap".
Alan named it that. I'm just honoring his memory.
No one outside the France family has been more instrumental to the growth of Nascar than
#JuniorJohnson
, who has passed at age 88. A superstar driver, then multi-championship team owner, he brought RJR/Winston to Nascar, vaulting the sport to national prominence.
Thanks for being concise.
I value the opinions expressed here, and I don’t block anyone.
As a race fan, I share many of your concerns. As a broadcast professional, I know why some things cant easily change.
Hope you enjoy the race as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.
(1 of 3) To those stung by my "keyboard warrior" comments: I meant no disrespect to those who contribute and want to advance the sport.
A small number here have an agenda. They stirred the pot to suit their purpose, and I should have ignored them.
Victory Lane got to be a joke. People drape a towel on the driver covering up his sponsors, put hats on his head, change them mid-interview, stack crap on the roof of the car, and even put up a "fence" so he couldn't swat competing brands off his roof. Sad fight for TV airtime.
Were you entertained?
Great drive by
@ShaneVG97
,
@dariangrubb
and
@TeamTrackhouse
, great event by
@Nascar
and the city of Chicago. Start of a new holiday tradition?
No, it wasn't a typical Nascar race at all, but today showed... now they can race ANYWHERE!
Time to put the "sellout" debate to bed.
Track sold all their tickets. Some stayed home, wandered around, or left early. Not all were seated at any one time. Let it go.
In a time of declining fan interest, Yogi Berra said it best: "If the fans don't want to come, let them."
Thank you Scott, and thanks to all for the kind words.
No one wrote it... that was unscripted.
I learned long ago that you speak best and with the most conviction when you speak from the heart.
Just listening to Ken Squier was a master class in broadcasting, producing, race promoting, building relationships, the business of TV and racing, and so much more.
His advice and good counsel breathed life into the careers of many of us who tried to follow his footsteps.
I'm not a big fan of lists, but I am a very big fan of road racing. The best Nascar road racers I've seen, by era:
Dan Gurney . . . David Pearson . . . Bobby Allison
R Rudd . . R Wallace . . T Labonte . . T Richmond
Jeff Gordon . . . Tony Stewart
Chase Elliott
I miss Steve Byrnes each day, a great wingman on air with a tremendous work ethic and devoted family man. Steve patiently offered career advice and mentored all who asked, only when he was invited to. I miss his wit and humor, but most of all, I miss my friend.
#ByrnesStrong
This morning let's salute all three:
@KyleBusch
for being so badass in Trucks to make some want to put a price on beating him.
@KevinHarvick
for being the first to step up and post a huge bounty on Kyle.
@ChaseElliott
for claiming the bounties and earning the title Bounty Hunter.
Thanks Denny. The "superhero" illustrations are part of the FOX "look" across all major sports.
This will run its course; the next version of the graphics package could look quite different. I'll forward your ask to LA.
Damn I had fun today! Thank you
@NASCARONFOX
family for being so great to work with. Appreciate my
@NASCARonNBC
family for allowing me to have this experience. Great race
@TALLADEGA
. Big crowd.

Sports TV (5) We all work really hard at this, though it may occasionally sound like we are just having a good time up there. Sometimes we’ll get a little defensive, cause we are proud of what we do, hope you enjoy it, too, and we welcome constructive criticism. Thanks.
Its not every day someone lobs an "I'm sorry, but you're full of s**t" in my direction (at 44:40). So, which is it?
My comments were aimed, but at several drivers, not just the one you named. Let me know when you'd like me to guest, I'll be glad to discuss with you.
After the Door Bumper Clear guys weighed in on Mike Joy’s tweet about drivers with daddy’s money last week, Joy responded on Twitter. Now hear what the guys have to say back!

Thrilling finish, but Fri night
@NASCAR_Trucks
race makes a strong case for LOCAL yellow flags in just the area of a stalled truck etc, with the rest of the course staying green.
It's SOP for road racers, we can adapt.
Full course Y is always an option, not always needed.
Very glad to get my second CoVid vaccine shot today.
With all this season's travel increasing potential exposure, the protection it offers is very reassuring.
If you're eligible for the vaccine, please consider getting it when its available to you.
If we were REALLY being traditional, we'd be racing at Daytona on the 4th of July at 10am.
We used to advertise: "Come see the race at 10, then be on the beach by 2 !
As they entered 3 I yelled, "
@RossChastain
in the wall... and still going!"
As he comes off 4, Scott yells "He video-gamed it!"
I guess that's a difference of 50 years perspective. Good call, son! That was a move for the ages.
There's not nearly enough room here to properly thank Ken Squier for his guidance and friendship over the last 50+ years.
He jumpstarted and advanced the careers of so many of us in racing PA, radio and TV, leading and teaching by example.
Happy Birthday Ken, and many more!
Joys finish 1-2 in Historic Trans Am feature Labor Day at
@limerockpark
!
Scott battled Ken Epsman’s Javelin for the lead, I traded positions back and forth with a Mustang, Cougar and Challenger. I Still can’t catch the kid!!
#CaleYarborough
pioneered CBS-TV's use of the John Porter-Peter Larson in-car camera that could tilt and pan, raising the bar for all who followed.
Cale won with it, silencing all doubters !
.
@FoxSports
drew 1.339 million viewers to Sunday's Pro Series Invitational on
@Fox
affiliates and on

Congrats to
@iRacing
for again raising the bar for eSports on television.
Most amazing takeaways from Chicago:
1)
@Nascar
conducts a great weekend with minimal disruption and issues despite severe weather.
2)
@KyleBusch
goes firewall deep into the water-filled tire wall... then finishes FIFTH!
3)
@Shanevg97
drives through the field for the win !
I've really enjoyed
@JeffGordonWeb
at
@FOXSports
and I learned from him. With a look or a nod, we could anticipate each other's next direction.
He's a good friend and I'll miss him being on our team.
Next year will still be fun, but it will be different. Right,
@ClintBowyer
?
Thanks
@DaleJr
,
@MikeDavis88
and
@MattDillner
. Really enjoyed being on Dale Jr Download, proud to be part of Matt's farewell show.
The book I gave Dale is "Dirt Tracks to Glory" by Sylvia Wilkinson. First published in 1982, just refreshed and available now. Its a great read!
Should
@TeamHendrick
borrow
@CoreyLaJoie
for

, I hope everyone will look back and research when Rick tapped Jimmy Means to sub for Tim Richmond.
Means was an "independent" driver/owner with much success in lower series, but never a top Cup ride.
He did a great job in the

You'll have to ask them why they didn't make every ticket holder go sit in those very cold seats so you could have a nice screen grab off TV.
2) Most of you know I welcome constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement from our most ardent, expressive fans: you, the twitterverse.
Your input is valued, your suggestions are read, some gain traction and you see the results as updates are made.
Sure, Ken Squier's words affirmed which driver was in what car.
Moreso, he made us care about drivers as people, respect them as athletes, and look up to them as heroes.
"Ordinary men, accomplishing extraordinary feats of skill and daring"... indeed. Thanks Ken. Miss you.
That didn't take long.
Rodney, your tweet slamming me has ZERO likes.
My tweet trying to "raise" your twitter profile has over 100.
You did pick up ONE of my followers, congrats. 47!

It's like people forget that the call at the end of the 1993 Daytona 500. If Ned were impartial in that moment, it would have been inhuman.
Heard David
@starr_racing
on TMD this morning. Great interview, very well spoken, illustrating the challenges underfunded teams face every race.
I liked he wasn't personally mad at his accuser, but was upset for his team and all their hard work and sacrifice being disrespected.
Since this was more than 30 years ago, (and is still talked about today)... I think we (
@NASCARONFOX
) should do it again this year. How about it,
@JeffGordonWeb

I guess he missed the very clear statement leading to our last full-screen commercial break.
Lol
@mikejoy500
saying no more commercials under green flag racing today. 20 mins later that commercial they call Side by side. That’s a commercial regardless of your gaslighting.

Just finished taping
@doorbumperclear
podcast on Zoom with

@FreddieKraft
and

. We had a great discussion about funded drivers, interviews gone wrong, parallel parking on pit road, driver attitudes, and Bristol dirt.
Everyone... the two-week
@Nascar
"Olympic break" is here.
What local short track(s) will YOU support by buying tickets and attending this weekend?
Asking my friends at
@NASCARONFOX
and
@NASCARonNBC
to get behind this idea and give it a well-deserved push!
If you're unsure of Ken Squier's impact on our sport?
He's the only non-competitor not named France ever inducted into the
@NascarHall
. A good friend and great mentor to so many of us, 🙏🙏🙏for a complete recovery.
At the request of the family, I’ve been asked to pass along that Ken Squier has been moved from home to Copley Hospital in Morrisville Vermont, where he can receive a higher quality of care as he continues to battle the COVID-19 virus. Prayers to him and the family.
Some clickbait at , accuses me of "blatantly calling out"
@DanicaPatrick
on her guest role in the FOX Sports booth.
Don't waste your time. We were kidding about who should talk to the
#47
on the in-car radio; no malice at all expressed or intended.
From Riverside Park to MRN, CBS, TNN, TBS and FOX, we shared a lot of airtime, and many good times.
I was always in awe of Ken... from his masterful turn of a phrase, to his business acumen running WDEV, two racetracks, Nascar North/ACT and World Sports.
A true Vermont Original.
This afternoon we reviewed the
#Daytona500
on
@FOXSports
.
Including two side-by-side breaks, viewers saw all of the last 67 green flag laps of the race.
Surprised no one has yet mentioned
@Tbayne6
. His parting with
@roushfenway
was not pleasant. Perhaps in this situation, past differences could be resolved or set aside.
I used "keyboard warriors" today just to get all of your attention, and not in any negative way.
I asked for consideration and input on something new we've developed that we hope enhances our coverage.
That's all.
@mikejoy500
@DawgPoundInc
@ClintBowyer
@TonyStewart
Mike how can we give our opinion on this sport?
Seems when we do, you label us as keyboard warriors.
A lazy attempt 2 dismiss opinions as invalid by reducing us to a lazy stereotype.
So how can we give our opinions? Or is it simply we can't - as when we do, we get called names
June 6, 1968: Buddy Baker crashed hard at Smoky Mountain Raceway. They loaded him onto a stretcher but forgot to latch the ambulance back door, sending Buddy rolling across the track, through traffic, and into a ditch
One of the funniest stories in NASCAR history
Enjoyed covering the NASCAR awards here in Vegas. I found out this week that I am a free agent for 2019. I still have my ESPN computer and still have some stories — and possibly many more — to write.
David made winning look effortless; and was as good a storyteller and partier as he was a driver. He also won in Trans Am against the best road racers of the day.
We are very sad to learn that "The Silver Fox", David Pearson has passed away at the age of 83.
Starts: 574
Wins: 105
Poles: 113
Championships: 3

I grew up in Wide World of Sports era. We would get five minutes of racing, then wrist wrestling from Petaluma.
I'd say you have it easy.
“
@NASCAR
will announce its plan for near term race event scheduling at 1 pm EDT today.”
Expect Atlanta, Miami, Texas, possibly Bristol.
Options include:
(1) Race as planned
(2) Race without fans, addressing concerns for large public gatherings (Miami)
(3) Postponement
Not wishing to be scooped by a rival media outlet,
@NascarHall
member Ken Squier was live on
@WDEVRadio
this morning disclosing his CoVid diagnosis. Ken urged everyone to wear a mask, describing how he contracted it from someone who had no symptoms.
🙏🙏🙏Get well soon!
It isn't just Nascar.
Our family bought Pontiacs, Goodyear tires, Columbia bikes, Craftsman tools, Hood milk, Martinson's coffee, Kellogg cereal, etc. Brand loyalty isn't anywhere near what it used to be.
Early numbers from
@TooToughToTame
... at least 6.3 million viewers tuned in to Sunday's Darlington race on
@FOXSports
... most viewers for any regular season
#Nascar
race since March 2017.
Hearing the big barn on NC 150 in Mooresville that served as crew chief Harry Hogge's race shop in "Days of Thunder" has been torn down.
The dilapidated barn refused to fall for decades, even as souvenir-hunting DoT fans stripped it board by board; kinda sad that its gone.
... yes, Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Camaro, Mustang, Camry get mentioned a lot on Nascar Radio & TV.
Without the manufacturers, we have no sport. They are battling for wins and titles just like the drivers and teams they support.
You wanted
@Nascar
to break with tradition, try something really different?
How about today's announcement that the season-opening
#Clash

@FOXSports
will be held inside the LA Coliseum?
You won't want to miss this!
