Green-blue color schemes and strong "step on me" energy are the order of the day for epic sapphic trilogy sequels!!
"Leave your sword." I was so Honored to have the chance to paint one of my FAVORITE scenes for
@BrandSanderson
's 'The Way of Kings' 10th anniversary edition! Prints are available at for the next 5 days ONLY, starting right now!
At long last, I finally got to paint the cover for 'The Hourglass Throne,' by
@KDEdwards_NC
, out this May from
@Pyr_Books
! Been a LONG time since we started illustrating the Tarot Sequence back in 2017 and I'm so excited to see the first trilogy wrapping up! Mark your calendars!
Time for some actual art! Here's my full illustration for "The Case of the Somewhat Mythic Sword" by the amazing
@garthnix
, with art direction by the equally-amazing
@IreneGallo
.
This was SO much fun--folklore-centric supernatural mysteries are, as the kids say, my jam.
"The Lone Drow," one of a series of Legend of Drizzt images I painted for Wizards of the Coast last year!
Peeking back in from my year-plus internet hiatus. Starting with this one because it actually had a big impact on the way I approach painting now?
Thanks to AD Kara Kenna!
"Introduction to Prophecy" for MtG's Strixhaven for
@wizards_magic
Every now and then a card comes along that's all about translating a fairly abstract concept (usually time/time travel, now I think of it?) They tend to be pretty tough but rewarding once they're cracked.
#MTGSTX
My finished illustration for “Of Killers and Kings,” the final cover for Will Wight's epic 'Elder Empire' series that began all those months ago with 'Of Sea and Shadow'!
Prints of all six covers are available starting right now, for the next four days only (check the bio!).
Wild Cards time again! My illustration for 'Skin Deep' by Alan Brennert. This was a really gripping story and I was pretty stumped for a while on exactly how to put it into an image.
Huge thanks to AD Irene Gallo for giving me so much freedom in interpreting this one!
More Drizzt! The Companions of the Hall, from back in 2022 (?). I've always loved this kind of montage composition and I was thrilled to have an excuse to paint one. I'd love to do more.
This one ended up in the Legend of Drizzt Visual Dictionary.
Many thanks to AD Kara Kenna.
So thrilled to have these two pieces included in Spectrum 26! Thanks so much to the judges, to
@WilliamWight
and
@bbeaulieu
for writing such fantastic books, and to Adam Auerbach of DAW for art direction virtuosity. I'm honored and humbled <3
"Beneath the Twisted Trees," my cover for
@bbeaulieu
and
@dawbooks
.
It was a really cool challenge to balance honoring the previous covers and while bringing something new of my own. Shout out to Bradley, AD Adam Auerbach, and Betsy Wohlheim--you all are a fantastic team!
Catching up on some older paintings--I didn't realize this one had been released! 'Fiery Confluence' for
@wizards_magic
's Signature Spellbook: Chandra. Painted her a while back (2019?) and had a blast (ha ha) doing it! Happy I got to revisit the setting from Spark for this scene!
In honor of my recent brush with rabies (I'm fine now), I present one of the weirdest and most weirdly-fun MtG cards I've ever painted: "Masked Bandits," painted last year for
@wizards_magic
's New Capenna. Kubrickian, Art-Deco Raccoons; nothing else need be said.
Full art for 'The Jasmine Throne' by
@tashadrinkstea
, coming from Orbit Books June 20201! Despite the fact that Twitter's preview makes it look like a painting about knees, this one was a really fun challenge and a great collaboration with
@Planetpinto
! Thanks Lauren!!
My full-wrap cover for 'The Deep,' by
@cyborgyndroid
, for
@SagaSFF
. 240 characters is far too little space to say what an amazing and unique book this was, or how honored I was to be asked to work on the cover. AD: Sonia Chaghatzbanian.
Here's the full cover for 'When Jackals Storm The Walls,' by the ever-awesome
@bbeaulieu
! Huge thanks to equally-ever-awesome ADs Adam Auerbach and Katie Anderson of DAW Books, and of course to Brad for knocking it out of the park with this story once again.
Covers That Might Have Been, featuring The Jasmine Throne, by
@tashadrinkstea

Another one pre-plague times. My cover for "Triumph of the Wizard King," by
@CreatorChad
for
@DarkHorseComics
. It's not often you get to paint a villain on the front cover!
I do also paint things that aren't on fire, I promise.
Full cover illustration for 'Of Sea and Shadow," the first in a new series of covers I've been working on with author
@WilliamWight
. Also the first image completed in the new studio in the PNW!
My cover for "Return of the Wizard King," by author

@tashadrinkstea
's amazing Burning Kingdoms saga. Prints of all 3 covers are available at for the next 5 days ONLY, starting right now!
A massive, fiery thank-you to AD
@Planetpinto

Tiny crop of a much larger painting I did for the Words of Radiance 10th Anniversary Leatherbound! I'll be doing a print sale of the full image in a couple months (check website hint hint), so stay tuned check out my brand-new mailing list if you want to stay up to date!
Honored to find out over the holiday weekend that 'The Oleander Sword' was nominated for a Chesley Award in the Best Paperback/Ebook Cover Illustration category, alongside four other amazing nominations.
Many thanks to
@ASFAart
, and of course AD
@Planetpinto
!
"Solemn Doomguide" for
@wizards_magic
's Battle for Baldur's Gate. Painted under odd circumstances (temporary setup on a folding card table during a move) but that ended up being oddly fun! I also got to reach deep into my DNA and find out that it's 90% Hellboy.
AD Deborah Garcia
My cover for 'Trial of the Wizard King' by
@CreatorChad
, for his prose series with
@DarkHorseComics
!
Sort of fell off the posting train lately; this one was from back in the Before Times. More to come soon! :)

@tashadrinkstea
! Prints of the final covers are available--only 48 hours left to grab them!
Cover for Alliance Unbound by C. J. Cherryh and Jane Fancher, from
@dawbooks
. I don't often get the chance to play around with scifi, so this was a lot of fun! Been on a huge Gundam and Star Wars kick lately so it seemed timely to post it. Many thanks to AD Katie Anderson!
Illustrations That Might Have Been: for Words of Radiance, I knew -what- I wanted to paint, so we were exploring either a 2-page or 1-page composition: one larger and grander, one smaller and more personal.
Prints are available (only 4 days left!) at
"Of Darkness and Dawn," another cover for
@WilliamWight
's Elder Empire series, painted as a companion to Of Dawn and Darkness.
Last day to grab prints of these illustrations before they're gone for good! Available for the next 24 hours only--info in my bio if you're interested!
My cover illustration for 'Three Kings,' another Wild Cards novel for
@torbooks
! I'm always so excited when I present (what I thought was) a really off-the-wall alt sketch and it goes over well. Thanks AD Peter Lutjen and
@GRRMspeaking
for giving the green light to the Green Man!
Only 24 hours left to grab prints! () In the meantime, let's wrap things up with Covers That Might Have Been, Part III, feat. The Lotus Empire, by
@tashadrinkstea
. Some of the first sketches I did after a pretty big sea change in the way I approach drawing.
'Of Dawn and Darkness,' my cover art for the sequel to 'Of Sea and Shadow,' all by author extraordinaire
@WilliamWight
! It was cool to explore a quieter, heavier moment for the midpoint of the series.
Check the bio for prints of this series--only 3 days left til they're gone!
Wild Cards time again!
My illo for "Ripple Effects" by Laura J Mixon. I will always be grateful to
@IreneGallo
for letting me get away with such a weird solution on this one. This image lodged in my mind early on in the story and I just couldn't shake it loose.
"Archmage Emeritus" for MtG! Posting some older MtG work since everything else is NDA, lol. I remember struggling to paint the final--I sketched it pretty intuitively and it relied on value relationships that I wouldn't really come to understand until later.
AD Taylor Ingvarsson
As an aside, I thought people might be interested in seeing the drawing for this piece. On top of making sure that the figure worked, I also got the chance to draw out all ten (minus one :c ) of the Honorblades. Figuring out their structure in line first helped a lot.
I had an amazing time working on this story. It's always a pleasure working with AD
@IreneGallo
, and getting to work on a fantastic
@garthnix
short story (in pretty much my favorite genre ever) was an added treat. Full art to follow soon!

Seems like I'm painting a lot of tigers these days, and I'm pretty okay with that.
Full cover art of 'Together in a Broken World', by
@pmwintersauthor
! Two firsts for me, both post-apocalyptic and romance. (I've done a lot of books with major romantic elements, but this was the first where it was cover art, genre-label, front-and-center).
Thrilled to have these two pieces included in this year's Spectrum 25 annual!
Many thanks to ADs Rene Sears and Irene Gallo for giving me the chance to work with some truly awesome stories this past year!
Full illustration for "The Last Sun" by

One of the last covers completed in 2017, in the middle of a cross-country move, no less.
Throwback... Tuesday? Finally out and about in the world, here's a cover I painted in the spring of 2017 for
@NightShadeNews
, for an upcoming YA series.
"Reign of the Departed," by Greg Keyes. Many thanks to AD Cory Allyn and the team at Night Shade Books!
My illustration for 'Hearts of Stone,' a fantastic (no, seriously, it is) short story by
@EmApocalyptic
for
@GRRMspeaking
's Wild Cards series. I encountered Stonemaiden in another WC story last year, so it was really cool to illustrate her solo story!
Thanks to AD
@IreneGallo
!
I've painted a number of these wide-format cards at this point and yet I think this is the first time I've actually seen the printed version? Pretty cool! Especially with the darker frame.
As a little aside, I really have to give major thanks to
@KDEdwards_NC
and the TS fandom. Keith is unbelievably kind and a joy to work with (both as an author and an AD), and the whole fandom is just so enthusiastic and welcoming, it legitimately brought a tear to my eye.
The prints are IN! I ended up putting these through an extra round of proofing to get everything just right, and I'm so glad I did--they came out fantastic. Thanks so much to everyone who ordered prints--can't wait to get these in your hands at last!
