Thanks to everyone that's come to watch and support
@Franz_Ferdinand
on this massive run, after 20 months, 172 shows and travels around most of the planet it's time for a rest! Been such a blast, cheers all
THANK YOU for the last time to everyone that's come to see
@Franz_Ferdinand
play over the last couple of years. It's been a joy. This really is the end (for now)
It's sad to say goodbye to Paul, but I'm very happy to have Audrey on board - she is a lovely person & an absolute drumming machine. Can't wait to play for you all again very soon!
Hello world. Paul is leaving the band. It was a bit of a shocker for us when we found out, so it probably will be for some of you too. Paul has been our friend for over twenty five years & we’re looking forward to at least another twenty five. He’s a funny, smart, sensitive guy.
Can't believe it's been three years since Always Ascending was released. Pandemic time is weird. A very fun record to make, I'm excited about the next one...
@surlybassey
@frankieboyle
Yes, and it’s even worse when you speculate that after a certain point it’s just an addiction to making numbers bigger. I mean, what’s the meaningful difference between 1 billion and 2 billion?
Thank you everyone for your lovely birthday messages, it means a lot. A strange day but a good time to reflect and appreciate the good things in life. Having a lovely time in
#Tbilisi
and looking forward to playing the fuck out of tomorrow night
I just learned my great grandparents prevented my grandfather from pursuing a career in music. Then my grandfather did the same to my dad. Then…I broke the cycle. Generational trauma is no joke!
.
@Franz_Ferdinand
'Always Ascending' is out today! It was a total pleasure to be involved in making this record, I hope you all enjoy it
#AlwaysAscending
Very happy to see
@Franz_Ferdinand
‘Always Ascending’ is shortlisted for
@SAYaward
, I’m proud of what I did on it and happy to be part of another great year for Scottish music 💪🏻

There's that saying that art is decorating space and music is decorating time, and now I'm thinking of making an album called "Decorating Time!", with me on the front in a pair of overalls holding a roller
Very sad and shocked to hear of the passing of Philippe Zdar this morning. He was an exceptionally wonderful, kind and vivacious friend who lived life to the fullest. A maestro and an absolute joy to work with. RIP
Fun Glimpse of Love video fact

: the most I laughed on the whole tour was when
@DinoBardot
attempted a forward roll across the bed and gently failed halfway
Very happy to be in Istanbul for the first time and excited to play a sold out show with
@Franz_Ferdinand
@ZorluPSM
tonight! I am going to eat my bodyweight in baklava
Still thinking a lot about Philippe Zdar. Reminded today that the mixes that he sent to us were labelled in all caps. I like to think he lived his life in all caps
#Zdar
We’ve seen all of your comments and we’re excited to announce that we are heading back to South America in November. Visit your local venue websites for information on ticket sale dates and times. We’ll see you all in November.
Converted my
@instagram
to a business profile and it made my phone number public. Might explain the random call from Japan I got this morning. Deleted now but a warning for anyone doing the same!
@SimpsonsQOTD
There’s a deleted scene where it’s revealed Kirk’s severance pay is in crackers, which get eaten by seagulls as he’s leaving. Wish that had made it in
RIP Aretha Franklin. I credit her with making me realise that the best singers sell you the song, you believe everything they’re singing - the moment she wakes up, before she puts on her make up, she says a little prayer for YOU x
Always Ascending - the first song I heard when I met the band for the first time, and they played me what they were working on. Immediately and obviously a banger. My BVs on this were one of the last things I did on the record, with my cab waiting outside
We have the best fans! Just received some awesome cookies from
@zenyisbaking
and a Russian drum machine (!!!) from
@vavilina
. I’m going to make beats and eat biscuits 🥁 🍪
Here’s a hot take: Social media is terrible for building community and altruism because it’s set up for news and updates to come to us unbidden, rather than us asking each other for them. It cultivates passive relationships.
Here’s a new live performance from me for
@scotsman_arts
, playing “Giga Shrug” off my album School of Velocity, somewhere in the hills at sunset. Enjoy!
Unfortunately we've had to reschedule some of the
@Franz_Ferdinand
2022 tour because of this bloody pandemic. Please see the new dates below. Sorry to have to do this, we can't wait to play for you again!
We are delighted to announce Franz Ferdinand play PJ Molloys on Monday 31 January!
Support comes from the brilliant Hamish Hawk.
BBC Radio 6 Music will be be broadcasting live from the venue throughout the day as part of Independent Venue Week.
Tickets on sale at 5 PM!
One of the best things about being friends with other musicians is they sometimes send you their records before they get released. I’ve been sent one today that I cannot wait to check out 👀
This makes my brain explode. It's as if they think it's going to make their bag appear faster.
Same people stop as soon as they reach end of escalators, looking around in bafflement, causing a pile-up.
Amateurs! (In Ian Brown voice)
So much hate in the comments for this. Why do people feel so threatened by music, dance, drama and art? What is there to be frightened of? They're wonderful
We will ensure children can learn musical instruments, drama, dance, and visit theatres, galleries and museums.
Because those things are part of what makes us human and what brings us joy.
Slow Don't Kill Me Slow - one of my favourites. Just a lovely song. It was late at night when we recorded this, and felt like a very special moment
#FFAAListeningParty
Really sad to hear about the death of Keith Flint. Jilted Generation and Fat of the Land got me started with electronic music as a kid. Still amazing records. RIP
I've been really enjoying
@smdisco
"Murmurations" on Spotify, so I've bought a physical copy. I'm gonna do this more often this year. I have a conflicted relationship with streaming and I want to support other artists as much as possible, it's too easy to take and not give back.
Lazy Boy - the timing on this one was a real head scratcher. It's in 5/4 but the synth at the start is in 4 over 5. I sampled the Microsoft Excel speech synth to count in fives in our headphones so we could all keep time
Imagine when you die you get a summary of your life in the style of Spotify Wrapped. St Peter in a solemn voice, reading from gold iPad “You spent over 200,000 hours in bed, yasss king”
