A group of former tenants has organized the first rent debt strike in U.S. history. They are refusing to pay back unjust debts to Equity Residential, a corporate landlord accused of widespread misconduct. I wrote about their campaign for @TheProspect.

So basically the Epstein files vindicated the most conspiracy-theory-brained understandings of American geopolitics, where it's all just corrupt politicians, establishment luminaries, and intelligence agencies fucking kids and blackmailing each other all the live-long day.

the fact that developers are lamenting a 4% cap on rent raises as a blow to the housing market tells you all you need to know about whether More Supply will ever lead to sustained rent decreases. can’t use the market. only gets more obvious

The results are in: LA City Council votes in rent increase formula of 90% of CPI with a 1% floor and 4% ceiling. They also eliminate 1-2% additional increases for master-metered buildings. A blow to LA’s housing market, but much better than the 60% of CPI they were pushing.

One reason that the left is preoccupied with the atrocities in Palestine is that, if you dig, you find that they are connected to injustice in basically every other domain of American life you care to name. Say what you will about the "omnicause."

As part of the shutdown deal, centrist Democrats are supporting a measure that guts food safety regulations. Insane.

Yesterday, @thenation ran my unprecedented investigation revealing a major U.S. landlord's links to West Bank settlements and the IDF. To see how American Landmark's U.S. tenants are being victimized, let's look at AL's properties in Charlotte, NC.(1/10) https://t.co/bzArRbpHOz

This story is horrifying, though it is oddly refreshing to hear a landlord straight-up admit that this is their business model. In Canada, landlords like Starlight try to bury it in euphemisms.

We have a stunning story from @thomasbirm in @thenation. It's about how one of Israel's biggest companies, with deep ties to the IDF and illegal settlements, is taking over huge swathes of American real estate—with tenants paying the price. A MUST-read!

@typeinvestigate American Landmark's CEO told @thomasbirm that "some people are absolutely displaced" when his firm buys a property. In fact, he said, the company typically expects around 45 percent of tenants to leave once it takes over. https://t.co/3WKWVL0ZSm

For @thenation and @typeinvestigate, I looked into American Landmark, a major landlord filing evictions far more than the national average. I found they are owned by an Israeli company with ties to the IDF, including during the Gaza genocide. (1/10) https://t.co/bzArRbp9Z1

If Palestinians killed 242 Israelis, they would have called it another Oct.7. Since Israelis killed 242 Palestinians, they call it a ceasefire.
