Good grief. This makes us feel lucky to have bought a new build 20 years ago that may be unsaleable due to leasehold corruption but at least hasn't fallen apart.

Good point. And true of a very large % of all workers in UK. For a start, 40% earn too little to pay tax at all. 2ndly, even most *graduates* will never earn enough to pay off their student loan.
@G0ADM Net fiscal contributions are not an accurate way of measuring overall contributions to the economy. To give an example, based on the average income of a care worker, they will pay less tax than they take in public services. Nonetheless, we need care workers as we have a shortage.
