Bondi told president at the meeting that Justice also decided to not release more Jeffrey Epstein documents because of the presence of child pornography and the need to protect victims.

Really important point here - regular people care way more about the cost and value-added of higher ed than any cultural wars nonsense. Universities need to go hard on this -> grants cuts from the Trump admin will, if anything, make the cost of college go up.
It is good to be aware of how vacuous and out of touch these Manhattan Institute demands are. When polling actual people with low confidence in higher ed, the most common responses are: too expensive (21%), don't teach practical skills (21%), too liberal (17%).

hot take: we're overestimating the positive societal impact of AI, but grossly underestimating the potential impact of GLP-1 drugs.
New newsletter: We need to talk about how GLP-1 drugs seem to be good for practically everything—and what that means for the future of medicine and health. Hundreds of studies have now shown that GLP-1s, such as Ozempic and Zepbound:.- seem to curb alcohol, cocaine, and tobacco

Lots of tough but very fair academic political scientists would be willing to do an elections audit for the DNC. And the end result would be better & more useful than whatever this is.
The DNC is going to release a review of the 2024 campaign that absolves Biden and Harris of any blame and instead criticizes an outside group for not explicitly breaking the law

A lot of this stuff teaches future leaders that they shouldn’t vigorously defend correct positions in the face of significant attack, or stick to their convictions. And this isn’t a right-left thing either! acrimonious disagreement is how politics works sometimes!.
This is genuinely nuts to me. The point of argument isn’t to be respectful, it’s to be *right*! It makes a mockery of the truthseeking process.

“Constructive disagreements,” “learning how to disagree” etc are super en vogue in universities right now as a way to try to deal with attacks from the right and toughen up students. But, boy, I gottta say that I think these efforts are going to age like fine milk.
I wrote about the civility mania sweeping elite college admissions for @nytopinion

Really sad to hear this. Fallon took a chance on me to head TA his undergraduate Con Law class back in grad school. It was a privilege to learn from one of the best instructors in the business. This is a shock. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and HLS colleagues.
Devastated to learn of the death of Dick Fallon, a beloved friend and colleague, and a model of a good and kind human being. (A reminder to tell people you love that you love them.).

This could be window dressing, as the anonymous admin official says here, but it could easily not be. Some of Harvard’s research centers are very influential engines of research and teaching - but it depends heavily on how they’re run and $$. Gift link:
