Many new engineering managers come to the job full of frustration at the shitty management they have endured and/or witnessed, and determined not to inflict the same shit on their teams. And they don't! 💕 Instead, they make new mistakes...like these. https://t.co/DFnzXYaM4B

You are a freshly minted manager. You come full of rage and frustration at the poor management you’ve endured and witnessed in tech, and you are god damn determined not to repeat all of those mista…

Look... a 0-day is not the fault of the developer. Especially one who isn't paid for the software and distributes it "AS-IS without warranty." You can judge the CA operator. But I will say: We ALL need to be more responsible consumers of open source.

AI demos are easy, AI products are hard. Anyone can slap together an AI demo that seems to work on the surface & impresses a crowd, but true AI products have to have quality, generality, be fast, hit the right features, not have domain drift, etc. I'm not impressed by AI demos.

I can't stop thinking about @_x7ryan's statement. I don't want to continue this discussion, I have different reflection: RESPECT #OSS MAINTAINERS. They're not your servants, their work is a foundation for your businesses, side projects. Give them god damn right to design things.

I set up my company's office today. I equipped each engineer with a bed, a large monitor, and a $20 chatGPT subscription. We're building a billion dollar business. Here's the setup. Ultimate productivity.

If you're a software engineer, your main job is maintaining legacy code. Why? Because building a system doesn't take long, in comparison to how long code will last, assuming the code/business are successful. Here are the 10 commandments of maintaining legacy code. 🧵

@GaryMarcus What are real applications of ChatGPT as of today? Beyond enthusiastic influencers expecting to make money talking about it, and non software developers pretending they learnt to build software using the prompt, weeks go by and no massive applications show up

The world is filled with code that barely works: 🚩Slow 🚩Insecure 🚩Inefficient 🚩Unreadable 🚩Inaccessible 🚩Requires pristine input 🚩No error handling or logging 🚩Uses old unsupported versions 🚩Only runs on specific hardware/OS/browser 🚩People are scared to change it
