It’s healthy to be outraged about outrageous things. Suppressing your feelings and silencing your voice usually supports the status quo and drains your energy. Restore. Connect. Engage.

Sticking with a bad decision is not a triumph of commitment. It's a failure of courage. The quicker you are to admit you were wrong, the sooner you can start making it right. Persistence is not about staying on a path. It's about finding a better path to your goal.

This is frustration in language acquisition ☹️ My classroom is a space where ALL emotions are welcomed — my expectations are high — this can frustrate some students. My next step here is one-on-one conference with this student and teach him/her ways to cope with language

Oracy precedes literacy. This is especially important for emergent bilingual students or bilingual/multilingual learners. How do you ensure that oracy is paramount in daily practices?

If multilingual learners are being pulled out of instructional time and missing classes such math, science, social studies, don’t be surprised when they lag behind, when gaps develop, when they have difficulty maintaining grades. And most of all don’t blame the students. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Schools are obligated to provide interpretation services for families of English learners, but most don’t. Now there’s some momentum to change that.

Harsh Truth: Your quest for perfection is hurting your progress. In Excellent Advice for Living, Kevin Kelly proposes an interesting idea: "When you have 90% of a large project completed finishing the final details will take another 90%." The idea here is that closing out that

My name is Miguel, but a lot of my teachers called me Michael. In 7th grade I finally had the courage to tell my principal that I’d like to be called by the name that my Latino parents gave me -- Miguel, not Michael. To any student that is reading this, your identity matters.
