The NASA budget proposal released last Thurs seemingly spared some missions, while canceling many others. However, that isn't the full story. When you understand how missions are staffed you will understand that NONE of the missions are safe. A 🧵 https://t.co/9ttcIRxqK5

Today I joined Senator @ChrisVanHollen and @RepGlennIvey at @NASAGoddard to learn more about the center's extraordinary work. We'll keep fighting against Trump’s proposed cuts to ensure the U.S. continues to be a leader in space, science, & exploration. https://t.co/vta6TFNfHe

If the Trump White House gets their way: • Mars Sample Return—canceled • Roman Space Telescope—canceled • DAVINCI—canceled • Goddard Space Flight Center—likely closed
If you care about science at NASA, this is royally sucks. https://t.co/mjHH0dZVhG

@USWeatherExpert @NbergWX If you eviscerate OAR, you ground NOAA hurricane hunters. No TDR, no AXBTs, no sUAS. Critical input to forecasts. You sideline all hurricane models, including HAFS. Forecasters will be flying blind in critical situations. It would *absolutely* undo decades of progress.

Massive (68%) cut to NASA astrophysics proposed in WH budget. If this stands, it's the end of American pre-eminence in space science.

This would decimate American leadership in space."

I generally refrain from commenting on subjective NASA politics, but losing the Roman space telescope when it is so close to launch would be disastrous.

Feeling just kinda shellshocked at the proposal to close GSFC. It's the center most near and dear to my heart, it's where I became an engineer and spent most of my adult life working. It's a gem of a scientific research powerhouse, there's literally nothing quite like it.

“They’re going to run NASA into a very deep ditch if they proceed with this kind of savagery,” Bill Nelson, the NASA administrator under President Joe Biden, said in an interview.” NASA science budget faces massive cuts in Trump proposal.
washingtonpost.com
The preliminary version of President Donald Trump’s budget proposal to Congress, known as a “passback,” would cut the agency’s science budget funding nearly in half.

TRaCSS is the latest evolution of the USG sharing notification of potential close approaches - we've been doing it not out of the goodness of our hearts but because spaceflight safety serves our interest. This is so short-sighted https://t.co/Na857nQBWz

The agency’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research would be “eliminated as a line office,” according to a memo from the Office of Management and Budget.

A 47% cut to NASA Science. This could mean entire closure of NASA facilities in various states. This seems to shift NASA's sole focus to human exploration. But I don't want American flags on the Moon/Mars if it means giving up the rest of the universe.

There have been 46 cases in which federal judges have blocked Trump policies. The rulings in those cases have come from 39 different judges appointed by 5 different presidents of both parties to 11 different district courts in 7 different circuits. Maybe it's not the judges?

A straight-up lie from a NASA press secretary
"It would not have happened without President Trump's intervention." @NASA explains how President Trump played an integral role in bringing stranded American astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Suni Williams back home from space 🧵

Oof. Hard to read, harder to watch. The astronauts are not stuck, people telling you otherwise have a long history of lying for attention.
Trump on two astronauts stuck in space: "Maybe they'll love each other, I don't know. But they've been left up there. Think of it. And I see the woman with the wild hair. Good solid head of hair she's got. There's no kidding. There's no games with her hair."
