Recent satellite imagery from the Milwaukee-Racine, WI metro area show just how dramatic the gradient was from the recent snowfall event. Racine got ~8 inches - some neighborhoods literally just across the road... not so much!

Everyone: this is normal because airliners fly “air routes” (yes, there are maps) that intersect over navigation devices. The contrails (mostly ice and a very small amount of unburned fuel) cross above one of the navigation devices.

@ChrisMartzWX 99% of what we see are contrails of water (liquid and mostly ice) yet there are a small number of weather modification experiments with silver iodide and other nuclei still ongoing. Minimal impact on weather and even less on climate.
