My favorite part of Starship Troopers discourse is they'll watch the scene of a military scientist torturing and killing an intelligent lifeform, whose territory we invaded, and is clearly screaming in agony, and still not get that Starship Troopers is a satire of fascism.
wow thanks blue checkmarks, i didn't realize how wrong i was. long live the federation, human supremacy forever, live only for the will of the state. i think i'll join the mobile infantry now, after all service guarantees citizenship.
@TheKaboomSlayer
If you actually watch the movie, it shows clear as day that humans settled on Klendathu, the bug homeworld, without even bothering to check if it was inhabited. The bugs retaliated to defend their territory.

A system of government that promotes the cause of the state or the greater societal power over the value of the individual, often built to benefit those that would reap from the outcome of such a system, such as one based on endless warfare, as seen in Starship Troopers.
@Spaced_out_Mako
In a roundabout way, that kind of proves what the movie did so well. When you were young, you got swept up in the "hell yeah, kill em all!" idea that all the other young people got swept up in this fascist mentality. It's only when you get older you realize how fucked up it is.
@StevenMorrell3
That's a phrase you definitely knew about before, and your argument is totally not a case being put forth to distract from the idea that Starship Troopers is a satire of fascism by an insufferable right wing troll who smells.
@PennyRed
You don't have to have seen certain movies to love movies. Someone giving you grief for not having seen something yet is a jerk who's trying to gatekeep a love of film.
@Srirachachau
That intro is perfect because it exactly mirrors how he responds to the Thing later on. The computer beats him fair and square, so he destroys it. The Thing beats everyone fair and square, so he blows up the base.

Learned helplessness has a variety of real human implications: people caught in abusive relationships can succumb to it, people with severe depression often suffer from it, abused children often suffer from it. Also most dog breeds result from eugenics, not being dumb wolves.

I had a english teacher who loved just giving away the endings/ major plot points to books people were reading. Like he'd see someone reading Game of Thrones or something and he'd say have you gotten to the Starks getting massacred at the wedding?
Enough negativity, give me some of the best-written films, TV shows, and video games you can think of that have come out in the last five years.
I’ll start with the obvious.

Shutting down for a second time would be devastating to Ohio’s bars and restaurants. We are not going to do that today. But, I’m announcing that I've requested the Ohio Liquor Control Commission to call a meeting to consider enacting an emergency rule related to liquor sales.

Snyder fans don't realize that not only does Batman not kill, but Batman refusing to kill makes him a more interesting character, and his mythos more interesting to explore. Under the Red Hood, for example, wouldn't be nearly as compelling if Batman had no issue killing people.
Seeing the Ride of the Rohirrim in a theater when I was seven made me fall in love with movies, which is to say, Bernard Hill's performance in that scene inspired my lifelong passion. I'm glad I was able to meet him once and tell him that. Rest in Peace, King, and thank you.

Bruh I'll take a totalitarian system where the government forces me to have a house and forces me to have free healthcare and free education any day of the week over the shit we're living in now lmao
Gee, that sure is tough. If only you were governor and had the power to sign an executive order to mandate masks so that poor communities like Athens wouldn't have to be screwed over by stupid assholes oh wait you can but you won't cause you're a spineless pussy.
ATHENS: The situation here has rapidly accelerated with isolated outbreaks that have resulted from a concerning community spread. Local health officials report at least 3 outbreaks at local bars, all of which have temporarily closed due to staff cases.
@ohiou
If you're deeply concerned, do something about it. Pledge to hold on campus classes for international students like NYU did. Do something, cause people's lives will be permanently affected if you don't.

He was a 17 year old kid carrying a rifle he was not legally allowed to carry in public who traveled to a state he did not live in, who decided to act as a vigilante and shoot and kill two people. What fucking context.
