*Update!* Friday is my last day at Stripe. 2,026 days later and I’m exceedingly proud of what we’ve done—what a company, what a ride, what an opportunity! And yet still so much to do :) Thank you to the team and thank you, pjcbwdps! <3 4ever.
OK yeah so hi, one more update—I’m coming *back* to
@stripe
as “Head of Craft” on
@lil_dill
’s team to help drive our continued focus on craft, beauty, and quality. Looking forward to working with many for the 1st, and a bunch of the old crew for the 2nd (or 3rd!) time! 🙏📷🫷

New job just dropped! So happy to join
@joinhandshake
as Chief Design Officer! Getting started on the right career is way too much of a dark art, and much too dependent on who you know and which school you went to —
So, today sure has been a day … full of hard work, so pretty normal. Say, I'm looking for a Head of Product Design at
@stripe
. Is that you or someone you know? →
Breaking News: A woman accidentally knocked over a balloon dog sculpture by Jeff Koons at an art fair in Miami, causing the $42,000 artwork to shatter, witnesses said.
Extremely excited to start rolling out a refreshed brand design for
@joinHandshake
. Thanks to
@LiAnneDias
,
@manualcreative
, and everyone else involved for their unwavering, diligent work 🙏
Not retired, just resting a bit! :) Thanks to the Design team folks at Stripe for the lovely book of memories, which my family laughed at and quote “didn’t understand”. (Unrealistic beard expectations illustration by

Hey
@SlackHQ
— ⌘K *has* to be "make selected text a link". It's the law. (Or, ideally, do what Notion does: With text selected, pasting a URL = make text a link!)
Two things to convince you to immediately come and work at Stripe.
1) We *actually* erase the whiteboard when the meeting ends.
2) We have these trays by the printers:
I truly don’t know where it came from, but Dad Level III unlocked this morning when I heard myself say “It doesn’t cost anything to be nice, you know”.
While I'm of course no Afghanistan expert, I did spend some time there almost 20 years ago. Not sure it makes sense to call the entire population of a country kind and beautiful, but that was my feeling then and memory today. They have always deserved better.
If you’re looking for ideas on what to do doing lockdown, my wife is currently running 100 miles … by running up and down Mt Tam 16 times!? 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰
You know how the first time you walk from the elevator to your hotel room, and then when you walk back it's like 1/3rd the distance? Still thinking about that.
@katienotopoulos
The most concerning thing about stuff like this is how disappointing it is that kids let themselves be influenced by this kind of dullard.
Even I, a non-sports person, know that this is a largely positive comment. Superstar or not, if you're a good human who gets things done, we'd love to talk — malthe

Next week will be my last at
@joinhandshake
. I’m so proud of and happy about all the progress of the last 3 years—most importantly building the amazing design team! Thank you 🙏 to them, my xfn buddies, and ofc to

Speaking of nice things, we're looking for experienced Design Managers at Stripe —come work with the wonderful people who make what it is (& me). I promise it'll be hard, fun, & rewarding —
Adding a fourth item to the list of hard problems in computer science: Google Groups permissions. (The other three being naming, cache invalidation, and external monitors).
Sorry to burst the bubble, but compared to what we *need* to do, Stripe has done very little yet. And even more excitingly, who knows exactly *what* to do or *how* to do it? I have more hard work and responsibility than most people would want —
Terrible to hear about the passing of Mike
@mkruz
— a smart, accomplished, and passionate design leader, but more importantly the kindest person you've hopefully met. Rest In Peace, Mike. My heart goes out to his family.
It seemed the height of laissez-faire cool when I some years ago saw a bunch of L.A. people go into a Palm Springs pool in *with* credit cards in their pockets (to use at the pool bar). It’s taken me since then to work up the courage to try it. New cards take 7–10 days to arrive.
What I'm doing on a Friday night? Oh nothing, just hosting a 1 hour conference call on my iPhone for RiteAid and Anthem Blue Cross to agree that I have health insurance.
@dyett
@stripe
Yes they are — but without taking anything away from them, it's less about the design team, and more about the company *wanting* to do it, and being able to *recognize* what cool shit is (and yes, (therefore?) being able to attract/retain people with this level of skill).
Made some updates to . So, so (so!) impressed with Figma and the libraries of Icons8 made quick work of it (and OK, good old Illustrator for some vector work — nothing else makes sense to me).
