Don't think of LLMs as entities but as simulators. For example, when exploring a topic, don't ask: "What do you think about xyz"? There is no "you". Next time try: "What would be a good group of people to explore xyz? What would they say?" The LLM can channel/simulate many

I genuinely do not understand how CEOs of American social media companies and their supporters can express so much passion about free speech infringements in Europe, but not say a word about censorship in Russia where many of their companies are banned. Some say it’s all about

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers. The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

TIL ChatGPT (and probably other LLMs) are blind to ASCII art. They have no clue how to make sense of it. (the first prompt was /Can you recognize what the ASCII art below depicts:/)

What’s up the the chinooks over Warsaw? I’ve never seen any here and I live near the approach path for helicopters to EPWA.

"The remarkable rise of Poland" is this week's cover story in @TheEconomist. "Poland has transformed itself into Europe’s most overlooked power - with a bigger army than Britain, France or Germany and living standards, adjusted for purchasing power, about to eclipse Japan’s"

When the CEO of a large tech company publicly complains like this: ouch. It's an open secret that Portugal is the lowest cost place to employ software engineers in the EU - by quite a lot!! That this cost saving is wiped out by local policy is plain bad news for Portugal.
Honestly: across the board, Portugal has gotten significantly WORSE since we started making investments in the country. If the trend continues, we’ll stop investing. And if you’re considering it as a tech firm, you’d be crazy to without some hard reassurances from the government.

The Economist reports on the rise of Poland. While there are risks ahead, there is a strong will to overcome them.
For the past three decades, Poland has shown how much a country can achieve with good economic policy and European integration. But if it elects a hard-right president, it risks throwing it away https://t.co/YuU1hD2W65

I don't want to say "I told you so", but I told you so. Repeatedly. I was heavily criticized for it. Mocked, even.
People have been rewriting history and saying that "everyone has always believed that LLMs alone wouldn't be AGI and that extensive scaffolding around them would be necessary". No, throughout most of 2023 (the "sparks of AGI" era) the mainstream bay area belief was that LLMs were

Everyone, Thuringia is just over 2 percent of the population of Germany. It’s not at all representative of the country as a whole. It’s a bit like looking at an election in North Dakota and saying that shows US opinion.
