You'll never guess the context
@L0m3z Yes populist logic says we should be ruled by the mediocre rather than the most moral and brilliant, which I reject.

(It's actually not that bad because watch wasn't that on for first sleep, but since coming off medication my schedule has been incredibly off.)

How did AI slop say something so stupid
@stats_feed Millard Fillmore was the last U.S. president who didn’t wear a red or blue jersey. He wasn’t a Democrat. He wasn’t a Republican. He was a Whig—back when the political landscape still had room for third parties. He stepped into power in 1850 after Zachary Taylor died in office.

Yes I support the Nordic Model: More Billionaires per Capita (NOR) Right to Dismiss Striking Workers (DEN) Partially Privatized Pensions (SWE)
Scandinavian countries use flat, universal taxes to fund their welfare states and have minimal regulations. The socialist politicians in America who wish to emulate them advocate for progressive taxes and high regulations.

Jane Austen is great because it's neurotic women figuring out if they're horny for the right guy, for the right reasons, to the right degree It's all about putting one's reason in charge of one's passions

I remember an article during covid about how motorized wheelchairs couldn't be repaired because of lockdowns and supply chains. They need a specially branded part to not void the warranty, China couldn't provide it anymore, so two million Americans relied on luck.
At this rate, we’re going to get turned into a permanent class of renters without the agency to fix what we rely on. My bipartisan Right to Repair bills would right that wrong and affirm that America is a nation of people who know how to make things.

LBJ left office hated by both parties, and Republicans in particular had every reason to celebrate with themselves and their new President. However, Bush believed in office-before-man, country-before-party, and Texas above all.
George H.W Bush bidding farewell to LBJ as he leaves office as POTUS. he was the only Republican in the crowd (1969)

A politics that's concerned only with mediating conflict and claiming to be neutral about metaphysical claims is implicitly disallowing any of those claims from being treated as certain. "It's fine and unimportant" is the message, and that's not cutting it.

Liberalism fails because 1) most people don't find their own source of meaning 2) arguably nobody can 3) the assertion that meaning is created by individuals is itself contested 4) Liberalism constrains us from actually believing anything
Liberalism is actually *not supposed to* address the crisis of meaning that many people find in contemporary life, the idea is to address the political question of fair terms of social cooperation and you’re supposed to find your own source of meaning. https://t.co/RogoYz3v0r

*also, so what if private insurance and non-medicaid Americans reap most of the benefits? It's still a much lower cost of living *This also fixes fertility and many addictions and possibly makes giant cars and houses less necessary

*Strictly speaking, 85 year olds off of both medicare and medicaid, and then the social security budget takes care of itself. *The official public savings from free ozempic aren't much better than break even, but I think we underestimate the cost of obesity.

1) Kick people off of Medicare at 85, you had a good run 2) Universal basic Ozempic fixes medicaid and also citizens/private market 3) Euthanize all pitbulls and zoning 4) Let public schools expel disruptive students There, we fixed the federal deficit, healthcare, and housing

Calling someone a Karen? Don't see a lot of that anymore
Was at Walmart a bit ago. Just me and my 3 year old. Got the groceries, walk out to the truck, put her in the truck, put the groceries in the truck, and then put the buggie in front of my truck. Out of the way and on the curb so it didn't roll away. This crotchety dried up old

@iwsfutcmd Heard some comedy bit about “Americans are stupid because they use words like ‘fall’ for autumn” and I just heard this guy say “washing up liquid”
