The Province’s move to remove bike lanes from major streets in Toronto is completely irresponsible + shortsighted. As we work to build a world-class city that can handle + sustain massive population growth + pressure in the coming years, this is a disappointing step backwards.

Yesterday, we held a productive road safety town hall with residents in the Dwight Ave + Birmingham St neighbourhood to discuss what we can do to make our roads safer + address trucks speeding down the streets. Thank you to all residents for providing constructive feedback.

Good news! The TTC + @ATUlocal113 have reached a tentative agreement that will avoid a TTC strike today + clear the path for a settlement. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone making progress towards a fair deal + keep transit moving.
I’m pleased the TTC and ATU Local 113 have reached a tentative deal. This ensures no disruption to the public transit service the people of Toronto rely on everyday. I want to thank the team at the TTC, ATU Local 113 and the TTC Chair @CllrJamaalMyers for their work to arrive

My budget gives people an affordable place to call home, makes transit better, fixes what’s broken and invests in young people and community safety. That’s how we get our city back on track.

New and exclusive from me: Mayor @oliviachow will tomorrow propose a total 9.5% property tax hike, down from the city staff-suggested 10.5% and under the psychological double-digit threshold https://t.co/YfzjRbB4fx via @torontostar

The mayor will on Thursday propose a property tax hike of 9.5 per cent this year – one per cent less than earlier recommended by city staff on Jan. 10.

A new report finds that there is *no* province in which you can afford housing on minimum wage. In Toronto and Vancouver, the wage you must make to afford a 1-bedroom is *more than twice* the minimum wage. This is a scandal.

OPINION: A new report calculates how much you’d have to make per hour to afford rent. The result is an indictment of all levels of government.

I can’t believe Olivia Chow spent her first morning as mayor-elect personally torching cars with Molotov cocktails along the Gardiner, but you’ve gotta respect the hustle.

Here’s Mayor-Elect Olivia Chow answering a question in Cantonese — that she had also answered in English. A first for a Toronto Mayor. #TOpoli

In 2000, Olivia Chow helped to overturn a city-wide ban on raves instituted by then mayor Mel Lastman. As a DJ who sees Toronto's arts and culture scene becoming increasingly unsustainable, maybe there's an inkling of hope that a "Music City" is possible.

Out walking my dog this morning, I was moved to see an @oliviachow volunteer in purple hat and t-shirt putting celebratory fresh flowers on Jack Layton’s grave. Feels like Toronto might just be pulling out of something that was so chaotic, yet dull, and deeply ungenerous .

Let's nip this nonsense in the bud: 1. 40% voter turn out; significantly higher than the last municipal election we just held. Remarkable given that there were no ward races. 2. Mayor-elect @oliviachow won by a higher margin than Lastman or Miller. So.
@jen_keesmaat I hope you will mention the impact of ranked choice voting in your media appearances today. Also mention that 85% of eligible voters ( 270,000 votes/1.89 million eligible voters)didn't vote for Olivia. Some mandate. Some democratic legitimacy. Not.

I’m grateful for folks like @g_meslin, @joshuahind, @kailahunte, @briketysplit, @normsworld, @BrentToderian, groups behind the Bradford & Bailão accounts & many others for prompting critical convos & unabashedly resisting the status quo. I’m proud we were fierce versus polite.

Farrah, thank you for your bravery. For your vulnerability, championing sexual and reproductive healthcare, and drawing attention to care inequities. Cancer can tear through our lives, but we are held together by community. I'm here for you and @KristynWongTam.
A few months ago, I started my dream job at @actioncanadashr to address sexual and reproductive rights. I learned recently that I have a rare form of cervical cancer. Yes, the irony is not lost on me. Yes, this sucks. Illustration by: @michellecampos_

Today, my wife @farrahsafiakhan shared a powerful article in the Globe about her diagnosis of a rare cervical cancer. I’m proud of her for taking an incredibly challenging moment to raise awareness of the importance of sexual & reproductive health esp for queer racialized people.
More than this: Cancer is terrifying on its own, but navigating this journey while queer is especially complex
