Real-time segmentation of fibroblasts allows us to grow actin skeleton in a specified direction! Cells built @Pertzlab express optogenetic construct to activate RAC. We use @manager_micro and @napari_imaging to train a pixel classifier for segmentation on live data from scope. 🧵

@PertzL next steps for us will be: decrease hardware cost, use image feedback for closed-loop control. many interesting projects on hacking cheap 3D printers out there already (see e.g.

@PertzL we use off-the-shelf 3D printing resin and microscope slides, replacing expensive SU-8 and silicon wafers. no clean-room required. see the preprint thread for application examples with focus on biology
FAST: from idea to prototype within a day. we create a simple protocol, combining ideas from literature and adding our own tricks. focus on replacing expensive and toxic chemicals: SU8 → consumer 3D printing resin, chloro silane → methanol, silicon wafers → glass slides.

PAPER OUT ✨ "hack" your microscope to work as a 3D printer! micrometer sized features at cm scale. <5$ in material costs per chip. from idea to experiment within a day. first paper of my phd in PertzLab @PertzL to make it through peer review!
