950 days after the Murphy Report into gambling reform was released, the Albanese government hasn’t responded to a single one of its recommendations. Meanwhile, Australians lose almost $90 million every day to online gambling and pokies. It’s time to ban the advertising of online

The latest January 26 history denial I’m seeing a lot is people arguing that Jan 26 is about Australian citizenship (1949) rather than colonisation, & therefore shouldn’t be offensive to Aboriginal people. That claim is historically and legally false. The historical reality

This new report from @ACOSS shows just how cooked 🇦🇺’s housing system is with the govt spending billions $$ more on tax concessions for investors than they do on social housing, homelessness services & rent assistance. I’ve had the parliamentary budget office model some really

We name cyclones, bushfires, even rain systems, because naming helps communicate risk, drive health and safety responses, and lodge events in public memory. Is it time to seriously consider naming our most deadly climate hazard after the companies most responsible for

We should start by calling heat what it is – a silent killer – and by asking those who profit from it to own their share of that harm.

Thousands of Australians rallied in support of Indigenous rights, on the anniversary of the day the British colonial fleet sailed into Sydney. The date is celebrated by many as Australia Day but is also known as Invasion Day by Indigenous communities and their supporters.

I’m tired of the lazy argument that wanting to change the date of “Australia Day” somehow makes you anti-Australian — or means you “hate Australia”. Right now, a significant number of Australians don’t feel they can celebrate on that date. Aboriginal people have made profound

You can’t detain a 5 year old child. If a masked man grabs a kid off the street and puts him in an unmarked car… that’s kidnapping. If that child is then sent to another state? That’s trafficking. Language matters here. What happened to Liam Ramos should outrage us all.
