@ChelFulhamBen @rcpsych Dr Lade Smith: "The people we can't get into hospitals, we have to move to out of area placements, often hundreds of miles away. These cost £164m a year. It's terrible for individuals, for services, and for the tax payer. We need to be investing in supported housing instead."

@ChelFulhamBen "Across the country, 1 in 10 patients in beds are clinically ready for discharge - this is where supported housing comes in" says Lade Smith of @rcpsych.

"Delayed discharge costs NHS £71m a year" says @ChelFulhamBen, adding that "you have to have to treat mental health alongside housing, employment, benefits, all things local authorities are responsible for. The more we do in the community the less pressure on the NHS and A&Es."

The UK’s first 24/7 Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre has opened in East London @NHS_ELFT. People with serious mental illness can walk in anytime for support without a referral or appointment. It is helping to bring mental health care closer to patients’ homes.

As we gradually open up for longer and more staff on site there are more people coming and it definitely feels like a shift in what we offer as well as a different relationship with our communities - including people with SMI #BarnStNMHC #247NMHC

Building relationships with our patients is surely the bedrock of mental health - assessing, treating, being by their side when they need. It's not easy and it's not linear but it's rewarding even when things don't go to plan #BarnStNMHC #247NMHC
