@svershbow
all of these are great! i hope people start to apply the last one at all times. i had to stop going to a barre class because the instructor kept saying, "let's earn those skinny margaritas, ladies." no one needs to hear shit like that.
@keatonkildebell
@manymanywords
Just seeing the Brittany Murphy pic I can hear her voice quivering as she struggles with the lighter, “her flame burning bright!”
A classic!
fyi marketing/ad twitter: we have a new marketing reporter at
@digiday
.
@julianexcalibur
joined the team today! super excited for him to start covering this industry/get to know folks.
I had two very weird interactions with this man in the mid 2010s. I cringe whenever I think about them.
Suffice to say, when he shows up things do get weird.
FYI job alert: We're looking for a marketing reporter to join the
@Digiday
editorial team. DMs are open if you are interested in learning more or know someone who might be
it would be so nice if social media platforms stopped trying to be everything to everyone, copying whatever's popular that moment
no one wants instagram to be tiktok. i am not on there to see some random creator. i'm trying to like my friends' baby pics and memes
He said he needed cab fare to get home and that they weren't paying him for the interview. His publicist ran in and was like, "Michael, Michael we're gonna get you home!!!"
Anyway there's no need for me to be tweeting about this but I'll just say that how strange he is IRL it makes sense that he got all the strange roles in the early '00s
He was a regular at a Mexican restaurant I used to work at in Brooklyn. I was punching in an order and talking to my coworker about him. I turned around to see that he was standing behind us the entire time listening to us talk about him. I'll never forget the look on his face.
All of the pop culture references for Super Bowl so far (Clueless, Breaking Bad, Caddyshack, even the Sarah McLachlan animal rescue nod) are pretty dated.
Is it a nostalgia play? That we don't have the same mass culture we did even 10 years ago?
a friend recently qualified to get the vaccine. her employer was like, "hey great, if you can get it during off hours that would be best."
um, no. people should be able to get the vaccine whenever they can get a damn appointment and employers should be ok with that!
SHIVA BABY is incredibly claustrophobic, tense and, at points, hilarious. I loved it. Also it should be under some new classification of real life social horror.
Another time, years later, I went to interview him for a quick back of the book Q&A. The man was clearly inebriated (that's why we never ran the Q&A). He told me he couldn't read. He also asked me to borrow money.
i wish this student loan cancelation were higher for all of my friends who have way way more to pay back.
personally this will mean that i'm done with my student loans. like actually done with them. it will be a huge relief. i'm still processing but basically HOLY SHIT
i genuinely do not understand why a company that was acquired for $1 billion dollars would have to fire the staff of its publication.
there's a dedicated audience. why not try to quietly sell that publication rather than fire your staff and make them seek a rescue buyer?
I'm very excited to announce today is my first day at
@Digiday
as a senior reporter covering marketing & technology!! (New email address is in my bio.)
Can't wait to dive in!!
odd to see headlines like this about someone you went to college with who was rich and privileged at the time and seemed to know it saying they just realized how privileged they are/were. hm. weird!
If you're an ad nerd you should give
@nudd
's new podcast, Tagline, a listen. It's great. This week's episode is on The Force from 2011 and there's even a
@bmorrissey
reference.
i'm looking for actual examples of things companies are doing to manage employee burnout -- weeks off, sabbaticals, etc. for some possible digiday stories.
if your company is doing something interesting pls reach out and lmk
this week
@Digiday
is running a package on social fragmentation --
@KimekoM
had the idea -- and what's that's meant for the social media landscape/how marketers have dealt with it
the first two pieces are running today. hope you will check them out!
pls stop telling women they'll change their minds about not wanting kids
also: i wish women weren't the only ones questioned about the decision not to want children. almost every man i've dated hasn't wanted kids. do people question them about it? no.
even if you think you don't know anyone who's had an abortion, you do. maybe they just haven't told you. think about what you say and how you say it today -- and everyday.
remember back in 2019 when we were talking about the end of the CMO role? mcdonald's was one of the companies that had gotten rid of that.
looks like that's no longer their plan with the recent CMO promotions...
solidarity with the striking
@TheNewSchool
professors. as a
@EugeneLang
alum I'm disappointed to see this strike on-going. sent in a note New School today. posting here too:
should this vaccine rollout work and we're really in a good spot at the end of may, we have to have a 4-day work week. long live the summer friday!!!!!
Agency Twitter: What's happening with summer Fridays this year? Any agencies/companies giving more summer Fridays? More time off? What's the approach been so far/what's been communicated to you?
I'm curious/looking into this for a story. DMs open. Email in bio.
Given Jupiter will be visible tonight through binoculars, I've called my local library to check some out. Some libraries have those available as well as telescopes!
Spreading the word because:
a) libraries have so many cool resources
b) we can see Jupiter tonight!
fyi if you read
@Digiday
you might wanna know we have a new gaming reporter
@alexleewastaken
so follow him/reach out to him if you're looking for folks covering that space
it's also funny to look back on how many freaking rich kids i knew at new school who would act and dress as if they weren't rich because it wasn't cool to be rich there but would then use their wealth/power/access when it benefitted them.
can't stop thinking about how so much of media in the late '90s and early '00s (or maybe our retelling of the time now) was about teaching young girls they had the power, were in control when that was never really the case
Coming into this role as marketing reporter, I had a lot of self doubt. So I am surprised and incredibly honored to be shortlisted with such kick ass people for this year’s
@WomeninMarketin
awards 🏆.

last night, i watched several episodes of Kim's Convenience and it's a damn delight! why hasn't it become a sensation like Schitt's Creek? similar vibe and wonderful characters!!
snapchat is getting a bigger piece of the pie lately as part of a push to diversify/not rely on facebook. have heard this for the last few months so wrote about it here:
@Carlos_Film
nickleflix rules! i’ve spent way too much money and time there.
also: it’s not the only place in stl that sells dvds and blu-ray’s (though it’s certainly the cheapest) as there’s also a few vintage stock locations. stl is pretty great for used physical media
something about that disney celebratory ad bugs me … maybe it’s the recent announcement they’re laying off 7,000 employees and spending at least $7 mil on the ad
There's an older gentleman in my old neighborhood who gives out dog treats and candy on his walks. Kids and dogs look forward to see him.
Someone new moved in. Instead of talking to him about not giving candy to their kids they called the cops on him.
inventing anna is so wild. imagine having three veteran journalists so invested in your story/working with you on it for ... nothing? they don't even ask vivian for an additional reporting credit.
LOLLL…X can’t get advertisers back without TAG’s brand safety certification…and TAG’s head Mike Zaneis can’t give it back bc his org loses all remaining credibility if he does.
I am LIVING for this drama (that I created) 💅🏼
the insane thing about doing anything remotely creative is that at some point you have to stop futzing with it on your own and share it with others. let people see the inside of your brain. humiliating! and yet so many people do it!
@SenWarren
1/3 You make the tax laws
@SenWarren
; we just follow them. If you don’t like the laws you’ve created, by all means, change them. Here are the facts: Amazon has paid billions of dollars in corporate taxes over the past few years alone.
moved to the midwest a year-and-a-half ago and have become a ranch with pizza person. i don't know how the transition happened but it did. i'm so sorry.
Today marks 3 years at Digiday. In that time, there's been a lot of growth and wins. From reporting live at Cannes Lions to hosting The Return podcast, I've tackled tough challenges, made incredible friends, and learned so much.
Always and forever grateful for this opportunity.
Flash Flood Emergency for St. Louis County and St. Louis City. 6-10 inches of rain has already fallen - and the train of thunderstorms continue! Never drive through flooded roadways. Please turn around, don't drown!

if you're also rewatching the sopranos can you let me know if it also bothers you that in season one meadow has a PJ Harvey poster on her wall and then at Columbia she has an N*SYNC poster?
at one point i had two unpaid internships at the same time while working as a waitress. didn't have days off. would not recommend, ever! pay people to train them how to do jobs.
these books were iconic and also treated as if they made good girls go bad. a friend's mom BURNED her copies in their fireplace after she got in trouble!
some of the entitlement from cannes lions attendees is wild.
saw one show up at the beach, demand towels and a bottle of rosé upon arrival from a clearly overwhelmed waiter. he’s busy! he’ll get to you.
