Tbh it seems like this particular murder would’ve actually been prevented by involuntary commitment more than stricter punishment. Dudes most recent arrest was for “abusing the 911 system” after he used it to try and convince cops he’d had something implanted in his brain
a stranger murder committed by a random person with no serious criminal record is a tragedy that's basically impossible to prevent. a murder committed by a person with a long history of serious violent crimes is easy to prevent by having longer sentences for 5th offenses.
